Recently purchased from nn + fitted to my 08gsa
mine has marked the inside of the swingarm + also dug into the black plastic cover which protects the abs wire + rear brake hose
a mate also bought one for his 08gs + his has also marked the swingarm + brake hose cover
anyone else noticed this?

I'll be looking tomorrow :(

Mudsling from NN

Just checked my 08 GS lowered frame (so no ESA). There seems enough clearance between the swing arm and the brake line. So no problem.
Check that you have it fully screwed up at the top, if not this could reduce the clearance at the swinging arm.

Could not wait till the morning :o just been out and no problems, mines a 08 ESA GSA and there seems just enough room, in fact looks very well designed down at the lower end.
When I fitted mine I did put longer screws in to replace the ones you have to remove to fit, as I could not just get the o/e to bite.

Me too

Needs longer bolts, than the o/e pnes that you're supposed to use.

Also fitted some flat washers as spacers to the bolt and packed out the frame with some inner tube rubber, cut to size, where the zip ties go.

Made it fit a whole lot better

Checked my '08 GSA (non ESA).
No problems after 8,000 miles use.

:postpics How about some ?

pictures attached (i think !)
Bolts + cable ties are all fully secure i actually think it fits quite well + works well ref keeping battery, shock+legs dry
but it shouldn't gouge into the swingarm like this (this photo taken after a fair bit of time spent trying to polish it out) + ref the brake hose cover its just as well that the hoses are steel braided

noticed this when cleaned bike on return from recent alps trip
thought it may have been a one off as i was fully loaded + carrying a pillion
but my mates is the same + he only has a top box fitted + no pillion
just interested to see if anyone else has this problem
my mate has sent pics of his to nn to forward to manufacture

Thanks for the pictures Dazz.Mines only been fitted for about 400 miles on a july08 GS with ESA and after a quick check I've noticed the start of marking in exactly the same place as the Pic. on the black plastic hose cover. Please let us know if a solution is found

Thanks for the photo's dazz. Mines marked my bike the same as yours. 08 GS with ESA, done less than 2000 miles, 1 up commuting only, so far. I modified mine with a hacksaw and file tonight to increase the clearance. Put some insulation tape over the marks as a way of seeing if I've cut enough off.

While the mudsling was off I checked for any other marks. Only one was due to the bottom of the shock cover rubbing on the mudsling. Have you taken the shock cover off yours? If so, is it simply a matter of removing the three bolts at the top of the shock cover? Tried taking one of the bolts out but had visions of shock fluid or similar pouring out :eek:as the bolt seemed longer and tighter than necessary:confused:I know, over cautious numpty.

I have exactly the same issue as described ('08 GSA with ESA). I've trimmed the Mudsling to prevent more damage and painted the swinging arm. The small screw that holds the damper connection in place is also rubbing on the Mudsling (original shock cover removed) - cutting a groove in it. Bit disappointing really.

I notice that on Nippy's site there are different part numbers for mudslings for GS and GS mk2. The first item says it's OK for mk2's but not if they have ESA.

The problems seem to be with GS Mk2's - just wondering which part number the people experiencing problems have, and if these are bikes with ESA?

I have the problem on an 08 ESA GS with a NN part number MAM-M-SLING08 fitted. I assume I have a MAM-M-SLING08 by comparing the photo's on the NN site, compared with MAM-M-SLING.

Where mine marked the brake hose cover it actually broke a lump out of the mudsling which left a bad sharp pointed edge so i smoothed it out with a dremel for now
I have not removed my original shock cover but it has gouged into the front of the mudsling here as well but i wouldnt be as concerned about it there but the gouge in the swingarm is very annoying on a £12000 bike
but my main concern would be the cover over the brake hose + abs wire as this could lead to a safety concern or lead to a very expensive repair if the brake hose or abs wire got damaged .
very disapointing to pay nearly £100 for a bit of plastic which obviously needs redesigned + then have to modify it yourself to try and save bike from further damage
my bike is a gsa with the esa but my mates is a gs with no esa but was advised that both are classed as the mam-m-sling08
(fit even if esa is fitted) version.

Anyway probably best for now to wait on manufactures response
cheers

Really grateful for you bringing this up Dazz. Just looked at my 6 week old 08 GSA with ESA and it's the same. Bit pissed off but glad I found out thanks to your post. I'll be modifying the bloody mudsling tomorrow morning!
Clearly they didn't test it properly before marketing the thing.
Thanks again Dazz.
Geoff

Thanks Dazz, I can see that if the suspension travels the full amount it will/may touch the swinging arm and brake line.
I will alter the mudsling before it does any damage - none done so far.
Cheers

Couldn't leave it alone. Just been out, stripped of the offending article and cut some lumps out with a junior hacksaw. Could easily see marks on the mudsling where it's been rubbing. Followed Shadude's example and covered marks with tape to see if it still catches.
Cheers both,
Geoff
