Mudsling problem

Just picked up my 08 with ESA and tried to fit the mudsling tonight but found OE bolts too short to bite. Having read this I am tempted to leave it off and return to NNs. If I decide to fit, anyone know what size bolts to replace OE with?

Looks like I need another look at mine and I think the mod could be in order, maybe I've not had enough weight on it yet, bit surprised thought :o

Unacceptable.

I could not believe my eyes reading that post. :handbag:handbag:handbag

I have almost two weeks now with the mudsling on board. As soon as my back health problem goes away I'll check my precious 2008 gsa . It is very odd that it took so much time (for an old product with all that great feedback from various riders) to descover that major problem . Thank you very much Dazz ...

I'm wondering what the EXCLUSIVE European distributor has to say about this ...

hugger/mudsling problems

There have been quite a lot of problems with both huggers and mudslings on this forum in the past years. I can appreciate that they do look very good but having had 1200GS's for over 4 years I have nt found any necessity to fit one - the original BMW odd looking bit tacked on the back seems to do a remarkably good job; HOWEVER I don't go off road and there is not a great deal of mud (nor rain) around here. If you really do go off road with these big bikes I would have thought that you are going to get pretty well coated in mud in any case - but perhaps not?

Have mailed NN about the different model's in the Mudslings, one for GSA without ESA and one for GSA 08 on with ESA.

With respect you couldnt fit the bloody thing wrong even if you were numpty of the year :D + they told my mate the same story last week, i think they may now find that it seems they do infact have quite a few issues with the mudsling :mmmm rubbing
my email update today from nn is that they will be intouch once they have spoken to the supplier in the states

I agree, but when I fitted mine it was a bit of a pain, that's why I put the longer bolts in, so just a thought if the o/e ones were forced back

Interesting to see differnet replies to the same question about the rubbing.:(

I had a look at mine yesterday afternoon and it does not seem to have rubbed anything and is fitted using the standard screws. Maybe I am not heavy enough ;)

Longer bolts or not it seams that the kit needs improvenent.

I live in Greece , meaning that if there was any refund policy the shipping costs would be half the cost of the mudsling .
If i new i had to find my own bolts , use a dremmel to fix the shape , i would have choose another option.

Thanks, I checked mine last night, (2008 version), and only after 100 miles I have the same marks as in your picture.
I've now modified the Mudsling to stop it rubbing:hammer

Still happy with the produt though, but it should fit:rob

Just checked by 08 GS and I have the same marking to both swing arm and brake line.:spitfire

E-mail sent to NN.

Here are the photos of the damage to my '08 GSA with ESA:

The damage to the swing arm has been painted and covered with the 3M plastic film - as has the brake pipe/ABS line cover.

The Mudsling has also rubbed against the bottom of the shock absorber and has itself suffered a gouge from the screw that secures the damper connection.

I've filed down this screw and cut some off the Mudsling to see haow this goes.

Doesn't look like it's been tried under all conditions.

Just had a call from NN and he has spoke to the manufactures in the States and a new extreme Mudsling version is going to be made and supplied in the UK in the next three week, this one will even take into account the plonkerbility of two up on soft setting :blast and should eliminate the chance of any damage happening.

:clap:clap top service from NN again.
