Mudsling problem

It's not "defective", it just rubs a bit... We're not talking about some highly technological safety-critical device here! And we even have the manufacturer's drawing of the proposed mod. 10 mins with a file and a 'Mk 1' will be a 'Mk 2'....
I was only joking! On rflection I might be interested myself!

I didn't get the rub marks on the swing arm but instead the Mudsling broke a section out where most other posters have modified theres, fortunately it did not crack (the Mudsling) and I was able to Multitool it back to a factory looking finish.
Isn't it great when you spend 200 on a piece of f@#%ing plastic and they can't spend the time to make sure it's designed properly.............

I spoke to NN last week about whether 'returns' might be available for sale to cheapskates like me. He wasn't sure - he had intended just to send them back to the manuafacturer... but he said he'd talk to them about whether re-selling returns might be an option. He's going to contact me in a few weeks when the new ones are available... I'l let you know if there's any progress.

I spoke to Norman this morning and he told me the manufacturer is wanting the old ones back :( What a waste when all they need is a bit of plastic filed off :(

ESA screw and MudSling clearance

Regarding the screw contacting your Mudsling, on some bikes it clears it, on
others it touches because of assembly tolerance differences. Follow the following simple fix to provide more clearance:

1. Remove the forward facing zip ties on both sides. The rear facing ones
can remain fastened.
2. Loosen the two mounting screws - do not remove.
3. Press the MudSling away from the shock screw (the loosened screws will
allow it to pivot back).
4. Place a small elastomeric shim 0.060~0.070" thick - like a piece of inner
tube - between the side frame rails and the cupped MudSling mounting flanges at the point the zip ties you removed are located.
5. Retighten the screws and install new zip ties.

This will solve the issue and there will be no difference in appearance.

It's marked mine too.

I too used longer bolts.

Mine's had the panniers loaded on it, but otherwise its not been off road or two up.:nenau

Mine too. However I have ordered a new cover. £5.01 from the dealer. So the damage won’t be too visible, but not happy about the mark on the swinging arm.

Thanks Andrew - excellent first post! :thumb2

Are you associated with the mudsling company/design (I see you are an 'industrial designer'), or are you just a user like the rest of us? Whichever it is, tahnks for the tips.

Though this may cure the Mudsling from touching the swinging arm I am not convinced that this will stop it from hitting the black plastic brake line cover, if anything I think it might make matters worse on full travel of the suspension.

I posted a picture of the suggested modifications to be made by Mudsling and they have increased the vertical clearance.

Having found the offending marks, immediately fired off e-mail to NN (when I say fired off, you know I mean 20 minutes of head scratchin' single finger typing!!) at about 2130, e-mail returned at 0730 the following morning asking for my contact number, dutifully supplied and NN rang me at about 0900 to inform me that modified mudslinger will be sent as soon as they arrive from the good ole US of A. Can't fault NN's response and attempt to rectify matter, just hope everything turns out as planned.

I've just fitted the revised Mudsling (courtesy of JohnnyBoxer:thumb) and can confirm there doesn't appear to be an part of it that will rub against the bike.

Obviously if this changes I'll let you all know

I also needed longer bolts and found some torx ones here the correct size

Can someone please confirm that the Mudsling now being sold by NN MAM-M-SLING08 for the 08 GSA is the revised design? I emailed NN but the reply just said it would not rub, not that it was the revised design. The details on NN website havn't changed since I read about this problem in October.

No, it's same as before - I've just got one from NN, no mod.

Does a great job btw :thumb2

I'm keeping an eye on it for rubbing - no prob so far

Not having had the previous Mudsling I'm not in a position to comment with any great authority but the guy I bought it off (JohnnyBoxer) sent his old one back several months ago and got sent the apparently revised one which I bought off him.
The one I have appears to be more cut away at the sides than the previous ones I've seen.

Sent mine back on Monday, marked my swingarm, Norman said he had revised one's in stock or the "correct" one's as he called them so hopefully all will be good when I receive the replacement.

Can you post a photo when received? :thumb2

I just received what should be the "new/updated/correct" mudsling from NN. Comparing it with the technical drawing of the proposed changes on page 3 of this thread, I'm not sure if I have got the old shape or the new shape - assuming that there really is a new shape and its not all smoke and mirrors, manufacturer claiming to have made mods and actually done nothing!

I plan to fit it this weekend. I will take a photo of the Mudsling first but I'm not sure how or if I can post it in this thread, I'm not a paid-up member.

I noticed a few other people have said they had to get replacement screws because the original ones weren't long enough. The bag with the Mudsling instructions contains 4 cable ties and also 2 screws, but the screws are not listed in the parts list on the Mudsling sheet, so I presume NippyNorman has added them. Cheers Norm!

That was my understanding and NN said I could fit the MK1 and exchange for a Mark 2 version at a later date.

However I said that I'd return the original unused MK1 version (didn't want to sell it to anyone in case it damaged their bike - i'd have been gutted - scruples, you know:drool) and he could send me a MK2 when they were available

NN did send a MK2 and I sold it to Big Nick
