Mudsling problem

He called me too and will take mine back and replace with the uprated Mk 2version

Top Service from NN and MachineArt USA:clap:clap:thumb2

I have had the same offer from NN and they have also offered to send longer screws as OE screws have changed recently and are too short for Mudsling.

Yes looks like we're heading the right direction
rang me today as well
although they tried to convince me that most people with the problem had either the shorter suspension fitted or had the wrong setting for 2 up riding
which wasn't the case with us
strange when they were telling people yesterday they never had a problem
but anyway at least they now admit it needs redesigned
hopefully they will actually test it on a bike this time :D

Agreed Dazz.
Mine(08 GS ESA) has only been ridden solo ,without luggage, for 400 miles since the Mudsling was fitted, and yet has still the same marks as yours but to a lesser extent.

08 only?

Is this an 08 only problem? My 06 GSA looks fine. Could be hiding under all the dirt, but no signs of rubbing on either the swing arm, or the plastic bit over the brake line.

Just had an e-mail from the states about the mudsling
Shows the alterations planned.
Hey that was quick.

Followed your lead guys and just emailed Nippy Norman's. Not sure I'd describe this as "top service" from mudsling though. a replacement won't sort out the damage to my expensive new bike.
Also, I agree with the point that it's not a fitting issue. It wouldbe very difficult to fit it wrong. And, longer screws might make fitting easier but don't have anything to do with this rubbing business.
By the way, never had a pillion on my bike but have had it fully loaded with luggage.
Again though, grateful to dazz for bringing this to everyone's attention.
Cheers
Geoff

is this a result!

see the old mud"BLING" is in for a revamp think we all no when you come of age for the "BIG GS" YOU no how to fit something as simple as a mudsling and set your suspension up if needed!!!! lets just hope this one comes in a jiffy bag,,, and not (lucky bag),,,, :bow

I agree 100 % .

The damage is there in my case too . I do not care if there is a replacement policy since the shipping cost would double the cost of the product ( for us who live in EU) and a couple of bolt would not easy the pain .We trust NN as a suplier of quality products but this time he gets a yellow card. And please all you fellows riders spare as from promoting the services of NN. He has our mail addresses and he knows who bought the mudsling. It is his responsibility to contact us and offer what he haw to offer. This is my state...

Ride safe

Oh come on guys, let's get this into context...
- The Mudsling is well established and has been almost universally praised here as a great product. :clap
- The 'damage' is superficial paint scratches. Yeh, sure it's a bit annoying, but it's hardly a big deal. No-one else had even noticed until it was pointed out.
- Nippy Norman, once aware of the problem, contacted the manufacturer and asked them to look into it.
- The manufacturer immediately did a design mod and will have the modified version available within a couple of weeks.

Sure, with the benefit of hindsight there's a minor design floor... they maybe should have left a little more clearance.

But as for Nippy Norman, what more could he have done? What would you do if you were him? Do you want him to personally test every product he sells, on every bike, in every condition, before he offers it for sale?

It's great that we've been made aware of the issue, but please, let's not turn this into yet another witch-hunt.

PS:
Nippy Norman Website said:
NOTE:The Mudsling is not recommended for use on bikes with lowered suspension. Suspension travel interference may result.

ALL BIKES - Always adjust your suspension when going from 1 up riding to 2 up and/or 2 up loaded to prevent the suspension from bottoming out - this will optimise the performance of the MudSling.

Sorry told a pork pie :o the Mudsling has marked my swing arm, not the plastic cover over the top, but just caught the arm down by the wheel, could not quite see it untill I cleaned the arm, but it's there

It's of now and going back for sure :mcgun

PS:
Ok . I guess i must Apologise . I was angry and unhappy. It was not fair to put the blame on NN for the mudsling disaster. But he is the one i Know and trust and i needed someone to :mcgun:mcgun:mcgun

Cheers everyone

NN giving exchange on the old ones :D

I spoke to NN last week about whether 'returns' might be available for sale to cheapskates like me. He wasn't sure - he had intended just to send them back to the manuafacturer... but he said he'd talk to them about whether re-selling returns might be an option. He's going to contact me in a few weeks when the new ones are available... I'l let you know if there's any progress.

You MUST be dreaming

That is really a bit cheeky !!! And how will you be covered if something goes wrong with this 'defective' part and it wraps itself round the bike? If you are really that mean can't you find an old bit of carpet instead?

It's not "defective", it just rubs a bit... We're not talking about some highly technological safety-critical device here! And we even have the manufacturer's drawing of the proposed mod. 10 mins with a file and a 'Mk 1' will be a 'Mk 2'....

You guys have just spoilt my evening, settled down with a pint and the forums to find we've got problems with the mudsling. Straight to the garage with duster and inspection lamp to find similar marks on swinging arm and plastic abs moulding on my Aug 08 GSA. Only carefully fitted about 3 weeks ago with so far no pillion or luggage. Suspension adjusted well into stiff territory due to BMI nudging obese!!!!! Will be removed tomorrow to await return instructions from NN having sent e-mail, unless anyone else has already been instructed as to plan of action.
