Hugger

Is this technical, I don't know really but I'll ask anyway.
I'm going to put a hugger on, yes I've read the threads that say the back end gets muck but I'm doing it anyway. The question is do I remove the existing mudgurad thingy at the back does it actually do anything anyway?
It's only a two bolt affarir anyway and I'm sure I read somewhere it's only on there to comply with TUV approval in Germany.
Any comments, even the derogatory ones gratefully accepted.

It's up to you. I've removed mine and I'm pretty sure the back of the bike stays cleaner as a result. For about £4 you can buy the blanking plate & bolts to cover the plate on the final drive exposed when you remove it - not essential, but it tidies it up.

I've got the Boxer Design hugger which looks 100% better than the butt ugly Pyramid one (which also catches under the seat on full compression on bumpy back roads.
The swing arm and final drive area definately stay cleaner through the winter when compared with Swoopers non huggered bike ridden on the same roads at the same time.
The Boxer one is about £150 from Germany but is genuine carbon fibre and really is rather tidy in the way it mounts.
Stay clean in style!

Never happened on mine (despite the load on the saddle ) - perhaps the extra clearance on the Adv is a factor....

I agree with Mike'O as it finishes the back end of the bike nicely. I would ditch the BMW effort unless its winter. I recently put mine back on for a trip to the Alps but its off again now for summer. I think I will be getting a fancy blanking plate as well....

Later Pyramid huggers cut away so no longer catch, never a problem with my GS. Fitted same Hugger to my GSA, had too enlarge mounting holes as was resting on front of Tyre

Can somebody help with the cover part numbers as per the photo in the previous post - I need the part numbers at JCs in Aberdeen as they have never come across the bits needed to cover up the holes when the rear mudguard is removed,

Tell JC's @Aberdeen that their Dundee branch managed to find it and to buck-up and get the Micro-fishe out for the back end, it's on there!!

It's also comes on the Adventure as standard, I believe, if you order it with Big Knobby tyres.

My pyramid one bounces off the undertray/mud guard all the time on my GSA.

I've got a pyramid hugger. I had to file a noth in it for abs wire, other than that it fits fine and does not foul anything.

how close does it get ..

I've a pyramid hugger on my non-adventure GS and find that the bolts (which double up and hold the brake calliper) have worked loose (maybe linked to someone putting on a new back tyre), among other things, causing the hugger to rattle against the swingarm (in front of the shock). Tightened it up and all seems to be well.

On a related point, I've tried to load the bike to see how close the hugger gets to the undertray (under the seat and tool box). From what I've found, it seems to have at least 3 to 4 inches (75 to 100mm) clearance space. I'm interested in this as I've (subject to findings) temporarily parked (in a very waterproofed way) the Kenwood bike to bike walkie talkie under said undertray. Do I need to relocate it before it gets mashed???

Any comments most welcome.

BTW, radio reception has improved no-end!
