I was in North Oxford Garage this am. They have their own carbon fibre hugger available for the 1200GS. I saw one fitted to their demonstrator - looked good to me not that I'm a judge of these things.

I think the asking price is £175.

Paul

Thanks for the info Paul - I'll let you know what they are like - Matt is fitting one before he drops the bike off!

Cheers

Hi guys,
I was up at NOG this afternoon buying the very same hugger. Since seeing it at Intermot show, I have wanted one. Very stylish and very well made.

Looks good.....

Hi Shedracer

Is this the same one that Wunderlich displayed @ Intermot or a revised version...? It looks slightly different to the one I saw & pix I have.......

How far does it extend down between the tyre & the bottom of the shock.........?

Does it offer enough protection to enable removal of the shock shroud?

Have you tried it in bad weather yet......?

'Cos we've withdrawn our own for the time being, I'll be needing one of these, methinks.............

Thanks

Dutch

Hi Dutchman,

I don`t know if its a revised one.

It doesn`t extend past the swing arm, infact there is a gap of about 3 inches from the end of the hugger and the swing arm/shock mount. (but I am going to use some rubber matt to extend it).

Don`t know about the protection as yet as I havent ridden the bike yet, but it will certainly be better than no hugger.

(Brother Andy will not be getting one as he will be changing to the K1200S).

Hope this helps you Dutchman.
Regards
Paul

Thanks, Paul......

Just one last q: Exactly where is the forward mounting point?

On the back of the torque arm bolt or do they provide a longer one.....?

Cheers

Dutch

(Okay, so it's two questions.........:D)

Do you know if they do one in plain black. I really, really hate carbon fibre, it looks naff.

I spoke with nws at the nec and afterwards, they are expecting to have their hugger ready by early/mid december.

Having had two of their products before I recon their basic black fibre glass verison will be top quality and resonable money. Maybe worth the wait.

I`ve had an email from NWS recently (17 Nov) & they are expecting them to be ready very early in the New Year & "the style of the hugger will be in keeping with the bike!"

no pics or prices as yet

Dutch, it mounts with the torquearm bolt.

If you don`t like carbon, you could always spray it black!

Last pic of the day. :D :D :D

The gap between the hugger and the swing arm, I`m going to extend the hugger with something like Colin O used for his side panels and rear flap.

So it will be lightweight and ugly, and keep falling to bits ?

the wunderlich catalogue...

hello,

for those who don't know, www.wunderlich.de has a page dedicated to the r1200gs. it is in pdf format and unfortunately it is DEUTSCHE! but the pictures are more or less self explanatory.

on a section of the catalogue, there are CARBON everything for the 12gs. you name it, they have it.

bloody expensive!

the all black carbonised gs12 looks the business. i wonder how much it will cost us to have the same?

happy riding.

p.s. eventually picked my bike up yesterday and 50 miles is shown on the odometer.....not a lot i know, but the weather up here is shite-muslim just now. :D

Paul, thanks for that info... Still £170 and you still have to fettle with it to give enough protection... I think I'll pass and go buy a rubber mat and cut it to the right size... Now it it were £100 that would be a different thing...

Better than nothing! although it looks like it needs to be wider on the left side to protect the riders boot more & longer to shield the lower rear shock mount. Not bad for a first effort B+ ;)

Swing arm protection

Won't the water have almost completed a revolution of the wheel by the time it gets to the swing arm / shock join and therefore not much extra protection will be gained by extending it? Or am I missing something obvious/

Like the drops keep falling back onto the wheel and are centrifuged aound?

Is it just me....

.... or am I missing something blindingly obvious here.

1. Okay, huggers look good, IMHO
2. They are unsprung weight
3. The practicalities of mounting them on the 1200 is causing manufacturing difficulties I suspect
4. They limit use of the bike off road

As an alternaltive why doesn't someone manufacture a plastic/fibreglass/Kevlar-Carbon Fibre skirt that affixes to the bike and catches all the muck.

A bit like a swept up version of the rubber matting solution proposed in an earlier post.

True it wouldn't look so cool but it also wouldn't restrict off road use.

If it were well designed it could look good and would maybe incorporate side covers like the TouraTech ones.

And would keep the the spray off the bike and the rider.

A bit like those elasticated plastic skirts that used to be fitted to 'Ladies' bikes some years ago.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of back draft on the 12GS which is forcing the spray forward. The sort of effect which make the back of estate cars and hatchbacks filthy.

I've been out around North Wales on my bike today with the flap and side panels fitted as per my earlier post, and although it's a vast improvement, mine was still the dirtiest bike in the group (1150GS, Varadero, CBR600's, Bandits etc) and I was the filthiest rider!

I don't see that hugger doing a lot, it looks much too small to be effective. More like a fashion accessory. If I'm wrong though, I'll eat my words and buy one!

Colin.

Saw this one on another forum, I believe it is by Ilmberger distributed the UK by Sandbar Composites. e-mail Nigel Wood at [email protected] for a price list
