Hello GS Motorheads

I'm venturing solo to join up on a tour headed for the Highlands / Islands Scotland.

I'll arrive on the ferry from Holland to Hull on the 5th May and would like to plan a ride via a scenic road to Edinburgh.

I'm arriving Hull in the morning and according to Mrs Garmin the fastest drive is four and a half hours, that puts me in Edinburgh near lunchtime; I don't mind to arrive 2 or 3 hours later if the way there is worths it. Question:, should I just go to Edinburgh and use the time there, or is there a scenic road that anyone can advise that worths the extra time?
Question 2 : Are there any GS's heading that way at the same time that would like to ride together.

How about taking the A1079 then b1248 and go up to Malton, then Pickering, keep going north up to west side of Whitby.pick up the A171 to teeside.
Find your way over to the A 68 then north up to Edinburgh.

A reasonably quick and scenic route through Scotland would be to take the A7 from Carlisle in Northern England, passing through Longtown, Langholm, Hawick, Selkirk, Galashiels, Gorebridge into Edinburgh. Carlisle to Edinburgh by the route is c. 156 Km. It's a fun road with no fixed speed cameras.

The possibilities are endless but here's one:
Hull - Beverley - Malton - Thirsk - Masham - Leyburn - Barnard Castle - Alston - Brampton - Longtown - A7 Langholm -Hawick - Selkirk - Galashiels - Dalkeith - Edinburgh 260 miles, 6hr 45 min.

The route via Whitby and the A68 is good.

Hi
If you are staying in Edinburgh.
Please make sure your bike is securely parked away from prying eyes. Edinburgh has had a few bike thefts .
I'm just giving you the heads up .
Enjoy your trip
Cheers

My route would be
Hull to Malton, Leyburn (good coffee stop), Reeth, Arkengarthdale, Barnard Castle (Lunch at the chippy?), Stanhope, Edmunbyers, Bellingham, Kielder (Cafe at the Castle), Bonchester Bridge, Hawick then the A7 Selkirk, Galashiels into Edinburgh. A mix of great roads and epic scenery up the spine of Northern England/Sth Scotland

You have to be a subscriber to get access to the PM facility.
It's one of the best £10 a year you could possibly spend :D
Exactly. I also have some ideas having done exactly this a few years ago from NL. If you go premium folks can send you internal messages as well. Worth the small expense

If the weather's good, a run up the coast takes in some great places (and some less so), head to Bridlington and keep the sea on your right.

How about this ... https://maps.app.goo.gl/3JbEhkCVhpeUzTp8A

If you timed your trip right, you might be able to meet up with some of the regulars from this forum at Dent. :D :beerjug:

After Dent, take a short hop up the motorway to Tebay. Then Penrith (take the old road, not the motorway). Then Langwathby and Alston. After Alston, head for Brampton. Then Kersehopefoot, Hermitage castle, Hawick and Galashiels. From there up the A7, following the Gala water to the outskirts of Edinburgh.

As said above, if staying in my home town, be very careful with the security of your bike. (Drop me a PM and I may be able to help with that.)

PS You'll need to become a subscriber to use the PM facility.

Dent to Tebay via the motorway!!!! I'd recommend Dent - Sedbergh - A684 towards Kendal for a mile or so - B6257 - A685 north to Tebay - B6260 to Orton - B6261 to A6 - then north through Shap to Penrith (y)

The basic direct route i have using Google Maps, via York and Middlesborough etc shows 5 hours 19 mins, so I am a bit concerned that routing Pilot Paul via Dent will turn out to be a 14 hour marathon! I am sure that there is plenty to see on the way. Barnard Castle to help you with your overall health and eyesight during lockdown, then A68, stop at Corbridge, then A68 all the way in to Ed.
Enjoy Scotland PP, we did that tour in 2019. Any Q`s on that specific tour then drop me a DM, once you have started to subscribe.

You could consider including the Kielder Forest Drive or skirting round Kielder Water on the way up.
From there, Hawick, A7. A707, then A72 to Innerleithen.
Then the B709, B7007 & A7 up to Edinburgh.
