Hi All
Has anybody fitted this product... HYPERPRO front and rear lowering kit - R1200GS 06 to 08. As I understand it it will improve the bikes handling, but also drop the bikes height by 30mm. I have seen them on Nippy Normans site for about £159, but it also says not for ESA, what is ESA???
My Bike is a 07 GSA, are they fairly easy to fit, and how would it effect my warranty? Any advice would be agreat help.

ESA is the optional Electronic Suspension Adjustment : the spring/shock characteristics can be adjusted, using electric motors attached at spring/shock, by pushing a button.
The hyperpro kit probably only works on conventional springs/shocks.

There is a kit for ESA, I know that cos I fitted mine last weekend.

Rear was a doddle, front was a bit of a pig to get the shock out but otherwise ok.

Hi Daffy

was the kit that you used Hyperpro, did you change the springs because you wanted to lower the bike?
Have you felt any differences with the handling?

Hi Custard,
It was a hyperpro kit that I used to lower it as it was on the verge of being too tall, it is supposed to lower it by 40mm although I think it is less than this but may settle in with more use, I can now very nearly get both feet flat to the floor.

I bought the front and rear kit and fitted the rear first and used it for a while and whilst it felt fine I thought that by lowering the rear I had probably increased the steering angle so ought to fit the front (as I had it anyway) even though it felt just fine with just the rear done

The springs are progressive so feel a bit softer in the initial travel but otherwise you wouldn't know, handling is as sharp as ever.

I was a bit worried about the side stand being too long making the bike being a bit "upright" and also the main stand being difficult to put down but I am reasonably happy with the side stand and centre stand seems ok although I have not tried it with loaded panniers.

I had a GS before which I used with the std seat on the high setting at the front along with an airhawk and got on ok with that so thought the GSA wouldn't be a problem but I think it was the sheer bulk of the GSA spooked me a bit rather than the height and I was starting to worry about dropping it so I decided that I had to do something about it as it was spoiling my time on the bike.

Let me know if you want to know more.

Thanks for that imformation, very useful.
Side stand and centre stand are something that I never even thought about, as you say, its ok though???
Did you need a spring compressor, how long did the front take?
You mention it felt a bit soft, (Im not very mechanical minded) I take it that it doesnt affect the re-bound and pre-load adjustment.

My main reason is to lower the bike, Ive been off 3 times, all at a stop, camber going the wrong way.

Sorry about all the questions

I too got caught on a camber in a little lane in Devon going across a steep hill with the down side to my left so like a dick I put my left leg down and rolled around on the floor, thats when the doubts began as I was fine up until then.

Yes I did need a spring compressor which I borrowed and it was fairly easy, although if you buy your springs from Calsport they told me they would fit them for free as long as I took the shocks off the bike, they said they would charge a couple of hours to remove the shocks for me.

I decided to do it myself as Calsport are in Birmingham and I am in Southampton so a bit too far for me to go.

The rear took about 45 minutes all in but the front took about 3 hours as I had to get the tank off and drop the front wishbone off its mounts to physically get the shock out, although now I know what I am doing I think I could do it in a couple of hours easy.

I asked the guys at Calsport about the stands and they said that the bike will sit in the same position as the springs are the same length just a bit softer in the first bit of compression so sits lower with your weight on it.

If your not sure about the fitting I would talk to the guys at Calsport as they were really helpful and happy to answer any questions however stupid.

Cheers Daffy, great help.
I'll give the guys at Calsport a call, I can see what they are like on cost too.

Thanks again

Just ordered a pair of Hyperpro 30mm ESA lowering springs for my 2012 Rallye, from Calsport in Birmingham.

I'll probably take the shocks off the bike & get them to fit the new springs for me.

If anyone has a spare low chassis centre stand, I'm looking for one.
(dunno whether I'll need it yet mind)

Use the sock center stand.
You will only need to shorten the center stand if you use shorter shocks such as Wilbers.
If you use a shorter center stand with shorter springs the wheels will not come off the ground.
Hyperpro short springs make it harder to put on a stock center stand.
You may need to shorten or alter the bend in the side stand with short springs.

Hyperpro 30mm lower springs

Guys,

Removed my ESA shocks & took them to Calsport for fitting the Hyperpro sings - £170 for the pair.
The chap there (Carl) is an expert & changed the springs in 10 minutes.

Now just been out for a ride & the bike feels much better for me, a bit lower but centre & side stands still work with no issues. :thumb2

(removing & re-fitting front shock is a bit fiddly, access is poor)

Wish I'd done it a year ago when I bought the bike.

John
