A long way from where I started!
Hey guys,

If I were to criticise my 800 at all it would be the dive on the brakes. I'd like to reduce this but don't want to compromise it's off road ride too much, ie, I don't want a great brake feel on the road with a harsh front end off.

What can I expect from the hyperpro kit?

Could I (should I) reduce the dive and keep the ride by simply running thicker fork oil?

If you could offer your real world experiences it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks

Obtaining a stiffy and maintaining it

Up and down, back to front.

It has been said before that the rear on the f8 is on the soft side, I know your posting about the front forks. (as was the other thread stiffening front forks on the F800GS)

With suspension surely the rear effects the front and vice versa, and can only be worsened with wear and leaks an all :nenau

On my F650 GS twin I stiffened the front as mentioned and rear with an Ohlin cost 1 large. :rob but oh boy did it transform the bike. breaking into and out of the bend smooth as smooth thing smoother than a click fag :thumb2:D

The old nodding donkey, dive dive dive eliminated. Some say better suspension is worth losing some BHP :augie

Now on my F8 on first signs of my leaking rear I stiffened the front and had a Nitron fitted and a great deal, all for under a Monkey.

A stiffy and a smile works for me :thumby: :D :thumb :beerjug:

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the reply,

I'm afraid it doesnt answer my question though. While im familiar with suspension set ups and how front affects rear etc etc I want to get feedback from Tossers that have fitted the Hyperpro kit and what their findings are specifically.

Thanks
:D

Hi Stumps

I have had the same problem as you with a crap front end off road. Whilst doing my homework it basically comes down to how hard and how often you ride your 800 off road?

I was going to up my viscosity from 7.5DOT to 10DOT for an easy fix, but after consultation with my garage, he told me after what I do with the bike, (riding hard off road, and not much road work) that my standard springs would probably be shagged anyway!

I have ordered the Hyperpro after the recommendation from Bond YZF, which should be fitted this week. I will post after a good ride out and let you know.

Cheers
Ant

Had the hyper pro on mine for about 15000 miles now.

It transformed the bike's on road handling, though how much of that is down to the oil, and how much to the lowering I don't know. The front is stiffer but still very pliant on the bumpy stuff - gravel tracks etc.

Have you considered buying adjustable fork tops? I really don't think its possible to have unadjustable forks which work well on and off road.

+1 for the on road transformation never use it off road so I can't comment. I've seen a thread somewhere possibly on here or Google it for a Marzocchi fully adjustable conversion using a set of used forks from a husqvarna, contemplated it for a while as you can pick them up quite cheap on ebay.

Thanks Ant and guys,
Be great to hear how your swap goes Ant.

A point you made Dave was the lowering of the front, I don't want this to happen I just want the behaviour of the forks to be better, does the Hyperpro kit lower the front end or was that an additional option?

Thanks

Hi Stumps.

Confusion Alert

I see your talking about front forks only.

When you mention Hyperpro progressive springs, different things spring to different minds :blast

I think I'm with you now, your asking just to change the dive on breaking and not compromise your on road off road riding requirements either by just oil or a hyperpro progressive spring kit....... But for clarification are you asking about a hyperpro progressive spring kit (As rear) not hyperpro progressive front fork spring's or do you mean the combikit ? :nenau

Yes there is also the hyperpro lowering kit that you say you do not want :blast Dave Ett posted a great thread on this conversion :thumby:

Or are you asking simply: "what's the cheapest way to reduce breaking dive without loosing any on and off road ability that you personaly require" ? :nenau

Good luck with the answer that you are seeking :beerjug: :thumb:D

Hi Dean,

To quote your first reply to me, "I know your posting about the front forks." its quite clear you knew what information I wanted. I'm not even sure what your last post has to offer at all?

So, to clarify. :rob

I wish to reduce the dive under braking in the front forks. I wish to do this by purchasing a "pair" of Hyperpro progressive (not lowering) front fork springs in the kit they provide.

Before I do this, I would like somebody who has bought the aforementioned kit and fitted it to the forks of their F800GS to give me some feedback or opinion on how it changes the characteristics of the the front forks.

I hope it is now clear, and very much look forward to some feedback from any riders that have the relevant experience.

I thank you. :thumby:

I'd be interested to hear feedback from anyone who has done the same thing on a 650 / 700 twin. (i.e. Front springs only, stock ride height).

Stumps, Reading my Post I see your point, I think I laboured it a tad in a wrong way at best, I would have sent you a pm reply but I cant. :blast

:surrender TBH I was just trying to be helpful that's why I posted the link, more for others to offer a specific answer to your requirements rather than hyperpro products that you are not interested in. :nenau

On a helpful note and as I have the hyperpro springs in my forks fitted this year, If you want the real world experience of personaly feeling the difference we could meet up and you could experience the difference (getting off your bike on to mine would be an instant difference in feel), I'm not sure of your location, I'm in Essex, but this afternoon I have a meeting in Cambridge and will be leaving there later to return back to sunny Essex. :D

If it's of help let me know,

Cheers,

Dean

After I returned from Mongolia in 2010 I had shot the OEM set to bits. Did some research & dropped yacougar progressive front springs & shock on the back of my 8 & the bike became an absolute dream overnight. Wish had done it prior to going east. 3 years later they are still as solid as the day I fitted them. Less fork dive & the bike now much more responsive & robust.

In my experience after a month of using the springs the HP front springs will not drastically reduce the dive on the forks. Am I pleased with the set up: YES the bike handles better OFF ROAD and on the road. The front dive never bothered me.

Thanks nrg.

Appreciate the response, am on ebay as I type! :)

Also thanks Dean, While I'd love to scream up the lanes from Epping to Finchingfield with you I'm afraid I now live in Melbourne so a bit far to try the forks. :thumb2
