I bought an Autocom Super Pro Automatic direct from Autocom last autumn, and Autocom fitted it at their H/Q in Warwick.:)

I was a bit worried when I heard that they had gone pop and were then subsequently bought out:(

I came to use the system the other day and when it wouldn't work I checked under the seat. The lead from the unit to the plug connecting with the riders helmet had been fitted in such a way that the seat height adjuster bar had squashed it and also squashed the connector plug.:nenau:blast

I contacted Tecstar via the Autocom site and guess what?

"I am sorry sir, I hear what your saying but Tecstar bought the name and the stock, not the debt or the warranties!!"

They will however sell me a lead to replace the damaged one for £15!!

Thanks a feckin' bunch and a great way to treat all the ex-Autocom customers they expect to be dealing with in the future.

I expect they were off the day Customer service and relations were taught:mad::mad:

I know the bloke who started the company :augie

If I bump into him - but doubt that he will listen :augie Not his problem, he will say.

So - mentioning you knew the founder had what use ??

Si - try and track GSRich of this parish down - he used to work for Autocom - If there is a way of "breathing life back into your kit" he might know how...

Although if it is a new lead that's needed he might not have one to hand - but on that score - if you don't want to hand over your "readies" to Tecstar - try Chainspeed ( www.chainspeed.co.uk ) - they are big Autocom stockists - and maybe handing the £15 quid to them instead of directly to Tecstar might make you feel a bit better...

Good plan cheers, I was thinking of pm'ing GSRich anyway as he fitted it!! (not that i'm blaming him, just one of those things):thumb

Can you perhaps explain just why you expect Starcom to provide continued warranty on your Autocom unit? :comfort

Al

Cut the lead where it was squashed, join the cables out and heat shrink the joint :)

Precisely... harsh but thats business... get a starcom...:hide although i do feel the pain, i'd be p#ssed of too..

My Autocoms now 5 years old and still going strong, shell out the £15 for a new lead and enjoy years of the best intercom previously available! :thumb2

I didn't EXPECT them to provide anything , I suppose its just bad luck to have a system fitted for 4 months at the expense of about £500 (not including the walkie talkie) and not work and then have no recourse at all.

4 months ... bit of a bummer

ah well £15 hardly the end of the world is it??

and just think - when you come to fit said lead yourself, you'll know exactly where not to route it.

The founder of Tecstar not Autocom

What he said.

The joint is obviously in the way. If you're not planning on dissassembling the rig in the near future - joint the leads and be done with it.

Or just buy a new lead far easier to fit and will save a HUUUUUGE amount of time. We never soldered up any leads as lead swap saved sooo much time
