After nearly two years of putting up with possibly the worst lights ever to grace ten and a half grands worth of motorbike I paid a visit to BTBRs lighting emporium yesterday.

Loads has been written about BTBR and his lights on these hallowed pages and it's all true so rather than post pictures with the lights on and a write up I thought I'd copy here the email I sent him once I arrived home, sums it all up nicely I think

Well, what can I say?

M42 - outside lane, 90-100 in the rain - no problem despite a VERY cacky visor. Car hogging the lane? No problem they just move out the way and, if they don't, a quick flash of the main beam to burn out their retinas and job's a good 'un ))

I actually took the long way home from Ashby cross country and was so pleased, kept giggling to myself every time I got a chance to put main beam on. At last my GS is pretty much perfect, night riding is no longer a mixture of 'sixpenny bitting' round corners and uncertainty as to what lies ahead.

Thanks for sorting out my bike and for the obvious care and attention you paid to what you were doing. The price you charge is a bargain!

Have you got standard lights or HID ? The reason I ask, is I am going for the FF50 on high beam have used them before and rate them, but have just sold my Micro DE's as I find they are swamped out with the HID I have fitted.
Had them fitted on a Gazza light mount, which is S/S and a nice bit of kit, but I think it mounts the lights higher than the Migsel bar, maybe that doesn’t help
Am awaiting a pair of 002-X PIAAs from the States that run a 35w bulb that burns at 70w
So hoping the result will be, low power usage and bright running lights. fingers crossed.

Am running standard bulbs at the moment. BTBR did mention that upgrading to the PIAAs was a worthwhile upgrade so, when I'm flush, I'll maybe go down that route. For now, however, I'm more than happy with the current setup.

Got the PIAA in the high beam, works well, if I had not got the HID from the 1150, would have fitted two PIAA's in the lights and gone for the set up you have.

The lights look good Andres, I'm franticaly saving my pennies and then I'll be off to see Alan my self.

These PIAA's are they simply replacement bulbs? and would one fitt the same wattage and effectively get significantly better/brihgter lighting?
Might be a worthwhile temporary improovement, are they expensive?

Mainly though I want to fit a much brighter bulb to my other half's Honda Hornet the h4 55/60 is next to usless when the street lights finnish.

The PIAA bulb is a 55w and burns at 110w, much brighter and with no effect to the wire system.
They are supposed to be Extreme so to take a bit more stick; they do actually look thicker wire at the base than a standard Halogen bulb.

About £30 a pop but very good.

Question - what is the best way to set up the lights so that you a) can see round corners and b) don't keep getting flashed by oncoming car drivers?

I have the same set up (which I did myself) and I'm very pleased with it, but I still find that there are a few 'dark holes' when cornering...

I do need to set mine up properly (hopefully one evening this week) as so far they have just been set up 'against the garage door'.

However, the DE's are set up just very slightly lower than the bikes dipped beam and pointing outwards ever so slightly. This seems to have worked as a very good starting point.
