Well it had to happen sooner or later, I've had the bike six months now without any "incidents" ... no longer!

I was at a bike rally in Yorkshire on Friday night. Parked in the car park, but in doing so, did a U turn on some very wet grass. Span the rear wheel loads due to cack handed clutch control, but parked up and thought nothing more of it.

A couple of hours later, after putting my tent up, I decided to move the bike down the road for some reason. Came out of the pub car park, gave it some gas, and feck me, suddenly the rear wheel is at the front, the bike is on its side, and I'm lying on the ground fumbling for that stupid kill switch.

I think the moral of the story is: be careful when your rear tyre is full of mud!

And the other moral is: fit engine bars! The bike is totally undamaged :D I had the BMW panniers on at the time, when the bike was lying down it was resting on the engine bars, the branch guard and the panniers. Some small scratches on the H+B bars, not even a scuff on the panniers and branch guards :D

ok... so i'm a moron... but what are "branch guards?" do you have any pics? Or do you mean the handguards on the handlebars?

Cheers...

Glad to hear you're OK, Mouse! And, good to hear that the bike didn't take offence :)

And yes, I guess it's the brush/hand/branch guards on the bars he's referring to. :)

Only once in six months Mouse???

You ain't trying hard enough matey....I managed to drop mine twice in ten minutes on Saturday lunchtime try ing to get the fekker through my back garden gate.
:D

Didn't take me six months either, but then the GSa is a tad heavier too :D

Hi Mouse,
I joined the same 'club' last weekend. I took the 12 to an offroad skills course and managed to lay it down a couple of times doing low speed exercises.
I have the H and B bars which sustained a few scratches and there is an almost invisible scuff on the lh head. Otherwise the bike completely undamaged
We had heavy rain at one stage which turned the site into a skidpan. My trail(death)wings were like greased banana skins coated with slime - they acquired a perfect veneer of clay in about two seconds.....
Now be honest here - will it ever be the same again between you and your bike now that the honeymoon is over? or did you lose something from the relationship in that moment that will never come back?:D :D :D:

Branch guards = Brush guards :D

And I dropped my Adv at least half a dozen times yesterday, all there is to show for it is a tiny 1 inch nick on the lhs rocker cover, Oh, and my aching bloody muscles from picking it up again... Tough work when you're up to your knees in mud n $hite LoL
