Are the 1200's as reliable as the 1150's yet?.....ah buggerit

Stu

I have had absolutely no probs other than a blown bulb with my 1200 with several thousands of miles on the clock. Is that not reliable then?:jibber

Mind you reliable or not i'ts being chopped in for an 08 GS, as previously mentioned a great way of getting rid of servo brakes. As for the extra 5hp..have any of you guys tried a demonstrator yet? you certainly do notice it, possibly helped by the revised gearing. Definitely more perky every where in the rev range, plus you don't hit the rev limiter so easily now.

...........add another 'You must be mad' to your list..........

What happens next year if they add something else and take something off?

I dont like the idea of a suspension system that can move if it goes wrong....a ticking time bomb:eek:

Be happy and wait until the bike is really different with stuff that you will need, not stuff that is car park or pub kudos.......

What cost to replace/repair out of warranty unless you have the cash to replace the bike before the warranty expires

ESA has been around for a while now and there seem to be very few reported problems. White Power quote £175+parts and VAT for a full service (which I believe may include tailoring to your own build, etc) for the RT.

I suspect the default failure would mean that you would not be able to change from whichever setting you had selected.

Are you comfortable that after a "fords" run or just riding through floodwater that it isn't possible for water to interfere with the electonic control and result in random suspension adjustment?

I didn't think the ESA was worth it for a few reasons- mainly though it's because I hardly ever adjust it on my current bike, the only time being when I take a passenger and luggage. The suspension feels fine to me as it is.

On my demo ride I did think the bike was far nicer to drive with a much better gear box and and weather protection.

I did play with the ESA a bit but didn't really notice much difference:nenau SO I'm not having it.

....it's just something else that can go wrong.

Having owned GS12's and GSA12's with Wilbers and Ohlins, I have to say I was really impressed with the new Enduro ESA on the 1200 Adventure. I compared it to my current 07 GSA which has Ohlins and it felt as good. On the other hand, when I rode the 08 GS12 with the Enduro ESA, I wasn't as impressed, didn't seem to have the instant feel from comfort to normal to sport. The Enduro ESA seems as though its been set-up for the Adv GS12 with the extra weight and you can really notice the changes from the various settings, where as on the standard GS12, the changes didn't feel as noticeable. I would definitely go for the ESA on the 08 Adventure, but probably not on the standard bike and if WP are able to service the shocks as Paul Wakefield said, then even more of a reason to go for it. :thumb The thing about the Enduro ESA is, as your mood or road surface changes, its just a push of the button and its done. :thumb

Wilbers and Ohlins are still the way to go though, if you have a bike with standard shocks, they are probably IMHO one of the best upgrades you could do to the GS12 and Adv.

I indeed did go for ESA :augie, roll on mid March. :thumb :bounce1

I agree I've had two 1200's a GS and my current GSA. Never had a moments problem with them, I actually quite like the servo on the GS then to me it was just another gadget:rolleyes:

I've got ESA on my K1200GT and I've ridden in some pretty bad weather in the last months. In all this time the ESA has never been a problem. I'm currently looking at swopping to a GSA and if I did ESA would be top of my wanted list.

It is money well spent as it works a treat, even for just setting the preload between a single rider and that of a single rider with luggage makes a huge difference. For the rebound/compression I tend to leave it on normal most of the time but I do change the preload quite often to suit the weight being carried on the bike.

Well I've never done any fords (not really an RT thing :)) but I've ridden flooded roads and in some pretty torrential conditions with no problem. Of course, one bike's experience is not exactly comprehensive testing but I haven't heard of problems caused by water.

Interesting comment and one that is quite often heard after test rides. I wondered when I first got the RT if it was working. I'm not sure whether getting to know and assess a new bike means comparatively subtle suspension changes are lost in the noise or if it is just all very stiff when new. Obviously the ride height changes noticeably but this can only be doone standing still.

I found it took a while before I appreciated just how good it is.

I swapped my 2006 GSA for a 2008 GSA. I haven't run it yet but the bike feels a whole let better ... the gears, the gears, the gears and the ESA thingy which is actaully not just a gimmick.

I 'm doing the Globebusters trip in 2009 and want to put miles on the bike I'll be taking ... ESA sold it for me ... and the fact that the 2006 GSA had to be completly stripped under warrantly as oil was leaking from the gear box into the engine.

Can't say I notice any power difference at this stage but I'm still trying to keep the revs down.

This bike feels right ... the last one didn't ... time will tell!

Hope this helps

Thanks thats another vote for the ESA then. good luck on the Globebusters trip I would love to do that one day. I'm sure the bike will be fine

......but did you have a perfectly fine '07 or '06 GSA and just wanted the latest fad?

If I didn't have a GSA then yes I'd order a new one with ESA probably:eek: if truth be known- but to change my one- the one......nah...:bounce1

Why June ? seems a ferking long wait :nenau

I'm test riding one tomorrow. If I have to wait for June for delivery I'll go mad. I want it now!

I'll let you know what I think.

Cheers
