October 2014 GS....

Had my first engine replaced under warranty at 18000 miles,
Second engine lasted 2500 miles before the "White Spots" appeared
Third engine (2017 Spec) less than 1000 miles and it's started going already (always washed, dried and a spray of GT85)

Last engine is a significant improvement over the others in respect of Gearbox especially.
The dealer has been great to be fair, but unless someone can come up with how to stop it happening, it'll more than likely be my last new BMW.

2014 gsa black engine , I use GT85 on it after every wash and there is zero corrosion or marks on any of the casings (engine and final drive).

GT85 will not be the cause (and it smells nice)

I've had 4 LC GS 1 silver engined GS and 3 black engined GSA I use GT85 or similar and ride all year my 2016 has now got 22,000 miles on it and no corrosion issues so far on on any of the previous bikes.

Just lucky I guess, have you got pictures of the issues your seeing ?

Just as a matter of interest do you park the bike up near a railway station or near a railway line, few years ago there was a big thing in the car trade (when water based paints started to be used ) regarding paintwork problems on a number of cars.

Main problem was a white blotched appearance and damage to the vehicles lacquer finish, after an investigation it turned out what all the vehicles had in common was they were either parked in railway station car parks or near railway lines where trains were slowing down .

It turned out that dust from the brake pads on the trains was setlling on the paintwork and when it rained it was turning into an acid and etching into the paint finish.

Do you have any photos of the corrosion. I've not seen a GS which has suffered so would be curious to see how bad it gets.

Alway worth a good look as lot of people don't realise their pride and joy is starting to corrode. Get a torch and have a look at the joint between the cylinder heads and the barrels, it is the favorite place, the paint starts to bubble from that point. It generally starts as little white dots within 1/4 " of the joint.

GT85 hasn't been a Common denominator and I live about 12 miles from the nearest railway line...

I am having the same problems, engine replaced in December, January its already started to go and only used it a handful of times and washed after each ride!

Simonizewash and wax for me. Rinsed thoroughly afterwards.
BMW said that was fine (they asked the same question)

NO Muc Off or anything like that ...

Looks like it dosent matter, as that is bubbling / corroding from under the paint. Looks like poor preparation before it was painted to me.

or some kind of an acidic based product is getting on it like paint stripper or fuel leaking and settling on it then getting hot and marking it but that wouldn't excuse the bubbling paint, just wondering if you have taken it to a car wash ?
they use something called TFR and its an acid based spray to clean car wheels to get the brake dust off and when that's left on it reacts the same way

Never been to a car wash, and no fuel leaks etc.
They all seem to go the same place, down the joints. I would have thought any leak/car washing product etc would be everywhere, not just the same places all the time ....
But if anyone's got the answer I'm happy to listen !!!

Rubbish, it's under the paint & caused by poor prep and/or machining the faces after painting before final assembly

One word....Honda, you know it makes sense.

I'd have given up on BMW as soon as they'd replaced the first engine after 18k!!!! No point giving anything or anyone a second chance these days, if the product is that shit it'll always be that shit, and you'll spend the rest of your ownership constantly watching and waiting for it to rot away, get rid and move on, or get one of the last TC's.
