I have a lock, but not a key ...

Hi folks

A bit of advice required. I have an ignition lock that came with my ‘83 G/S, but sadly don’t have a key.

How do I get one ...?

There’s a 4 digit code etched into the base of the ignition lock.

IIRC, BMW can supply keys, against the code, with you providing ID & V5 etc. Sounds expensive; I see talk of £40-50.

The alternative would seem to be to order a key blank, from say Motorworks & get a locksmith to create a working key............unless you feel brave enough to DIY: -

just looked through a pile of old keys. I have a AA15232 and a AA51243 both neiman keys.

I did this but then the blank with its turn-down end wouldn’t fit any of the key cutters vices to get an accurate replica of the one key I did have.

Just a thought.

Many moons ago, I fitted I concealed switch and used that. Even if bad men screwdriver the key the bike wont start and you then wouldn't need to buy one.

Have a search around a friend of mine found a locksmith/key cutter that made/ cut keys from the lock for around £20

Oddly enough that’s just the plan - a hidden barrel key for power and use this just as an ‘on/off’ switch. I’ll see what the local lock smith can do.
