Y2 I have a 60C and it is good, but the quest is much better value for money....

If you insist buy the quest and I'll do you a straight swap. Plus I have the unlock code for V7...

The 56mb problem is a serious one. I'll be using my GPS to travel through to the South of France later in the year. No chance of fitting that route all onto the 60, fortunately I have a compact lap top that will also be coming, from which I can dowload more maps. If it weren't for that facility then I'd be shafted!!!!
Dilema time for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I disagree - you can get a heck of a lot on 56mb. I have just been working out a route from home (Belgium) to the Stella Alpina rally in Italy. All the maps I need on 28.1mb . I did Spain last year - no problem with too little memory. If you are going on a vague ramble across Europe you may have some problems but you can get from one corner of Europe to the other easily with 56mb in the 60c. I know I've done it :D ....without a laptop in tow.

too late ive already paid for the 60c

i'll prolly just stump the cash for city select £179.99 at some point

hope i havent bought a lemon

You ain't bought no lemon. You've bought a quality piece of kit. Will provide you with brilliant results, and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Remember to check out ebay for the software might save you a few tens of pounds

Y2, Gecko, and Richi,
i tried to work out my GPS 60CS a year ago, and still im none the wiser. I have been using the unit in the UK brilliantly, without any problems, well, only that it wont do the road following bit. This may be that i dont have the "city select" software???
so, my questions are this
A. what software do i have?? the UK is very, very detailed, every road is named, and shows all places of intersest ect ect,But, france, and the rest of europe is very basic, main roads and some minor ones, with rivers ect ect.
B, how do i check my memory?
C, I have a list of 50 or so maps in my map set up box. Now, when i take a tick out of one of the ireland boxes it gives me more detail of an area,(in Ireland) if i put the tick in for dublin city, it shows every road in dublin in great detail, with names, but it knocks out the detail for the whole of ireland, the strange bit is, when it starts to "draw" the map, it shows all the detail of ireland, then it stops, clears itself and "draws" a very basic map instead, so the maps are on the unit, but something is stoping it form using it.

Are you with me????

im pulling my hair out.

can any one tell me what it is doing and why, and more importantly, how to sort it out.

Any help would be very nice:)

errmm i dunno i havent read the book yet !!!!
:o

seams pretty straight faward so far!!!!!

sorry i cant help you.ive only got the base map on mine ,i havent bought city select yet!!!!

Y2,
ive used my 60CS in Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, USA, and all over Europe.

It is a brill bit of kit. it is still surprising me even now with what i discover it does, yes, im still learning. I use it on my bike and car and also, up in the mountains.

before this unit, i had for years a Garmin GPS12, that was great, but this 60CS is unreal. You will need to hard wire it to you bike and think about a remote antenna.

You will love it.

its just a couple of bits i cant get my head round.

Cheers anyway:)

what street mapping do you use?
ive been told i'll NEVER fit the whole UK ( mapsourse city select V7 ,the software im looking at getting ) on the 56MB internal memory:( is that true?

I've been using my 60cs for over a year and i love it.

Until you buy the city select software you will hate it.

I use it for street navigation on the gs and in the car.

I use it for hill walking and cycling.

And best of all I use it for greenlaning.

Using memory map I can plot the entry and exit points of the green lanes, creating a route. Upload that onto the gps, then use the autorouting to navigate you between the waypoints.

Takes the hassle out of green laning.

Happy to take you through it, also can load memory map o/s maps onto your lap top if you want. ;)

That's true. City Navigator v5 takes just over 128MB for the entire UK. V7 will take more memory. But miss out a few places you'll never visit on your trail bike (eg Central London - the maps for there take a lot of memory cos there are a lot of roads) and you should get a fair proportion of the UK on your unit.

cool ,so i can put the whole of the south on it up to say, oxford? and leave the rest off inc london centre????

i didnt realise i could do that!!!

The maps are divided into sections. The sections are of varying size, depending on (roughly) how many roads there are in the area. You can transfer any combination of map sections to the GPS unit.

Just as a quick test, I selected all the maps covering the UK from the south coast to just north of Oxford - total size 50MB. If you have a newer version of the maps (I've got V5) they will be a bit bigger but you shouldn't have any problems. You can easily play around in MapSource and decide which maps you want to use and which you don't.

If you make a route from say Dover to Oxford on your PC then tright mouse click on the route you will get an option to select maps aropund that route. They change from white to pink on Mapsource city select. Then you can see how many MB has been used in the maps tab on the left. You can then add or remove extra maps until you get to about 55mb. Best leave a little buffer for memory management reasons. I'm just back from near Munich with my 60c and I didn't use the full 56mb.

to the owners of the 60 cs

I`m thinking of getting a 60cs for use on the bike, car and walking. I have a few questions for you guys who own this gps.

1. can you fit an external aerial for use in cars.
2. I have seen the 60cs on ebay for about £230 for a us model. I`m going to the states in october and thought I could pick one up then, but will it work OK with V7 city select.
3. When driving do you get any sound prompts for a turn.
4. what maps do you get for walking, or do I need to get some other software.
5. have there been any problems with this model, if so, maybe I should buy a UK version for warranty cover, but then the price will hit the £500+ mark and I may have to have a re-think.

I am mainly interested in the 60cs for use while walking, but obviously the more versatile the better. your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated.

the units own arial works fine in the car with the unit sat in a suction cup mount from the windscreen (but i you can get a external one if you so wish)

bakerman has a US model ,ask him for his feedback

with the unit itself you just get a base map showing main roads and motorways,i am holding out for the city select software to see if it comes up cheaper anywhere ie Ebay ( its usually £179rrp)

so far i have done 1000 miles with the unit in various cars and on the both bikes with no problems at all
