I concur with y2blade re the aerial. You'll get along fine without one.
As far as software goes. Other than the much debated City Select scenario, for walking and off road use, then you should be looking at MemoryMap, Anquet, or Fugawi software.
Be very very cautious about buying in the US, unless you are 100% certain that it will come with the European (Atlantic) basemap. The basemap is the one pre inserted by Garmin, giving basic location details. Have a US basemap, and by the time it arrives here, there will be no map within its memory for it to use as a reference. It will still give you co-ordinates and BNG but no map. This basemap, once put in by Garmin (and so I'm told) can not be extracted or changed.
