I have avoided test riding a WC ever since they arrived on the scene. Mainly due to the fact I can't afford one and I have a perfectly good TC which owes me nothing.

Looking to treat myself in about a year so I thought I should try one. My general thoughts beforehand was "why would I want to spend 15 grand on something that I already have that cost me nothing (apart from servicing etc but so would a new one)"

I hoped that the test ride would prove me right and I could blissfully carry on on my TC.

Well I took out a GSA demonstrator from out local dealer today and have to accept that is quicker and great fun to ride and I loved it. It is not night and day different from my TC and won't take me anywhere my current bike couldn't do but it was very nice.

I better start test riding lots of other new bikes. Purely for research purposes only you understand :augie

Funny you should say that.

I have a 2007 RT and like you was thinking the same, that it owes me nothing etc.

The wife and I are just (Saturday) back from a weeks rental of an LC in southern Spain. We had done the same in 2011 on a TC and then I thought it was a good bike but not sufficiently better than the RT to make a change. However, I was staggered with the improvement the LC was over my RT, so much so that I collect an LC tomorrow morning.

Nice one Mr Bean. Enjoy your new toy :beerjug:

I am a tad jealous!

Neil

Thank you - however, I am sure your TC feels a lot newer than my 70,000 mile 2007 RT! Which it is starting to feel tired and generations from an GS LC.

What, like snapped drive shaft, failed ESA, replacement FD, new clutch - I could go on.

Mr B,

I hope you enjoy the LC. I bought my 2014 LC late last year and it has been brilliant.

I really think my 2016 GSA is a great bike, I rode many previous GSs and didn't like them, I even bought a 2013 RT, which I ran for a year. Even the standard seat wasn't too bad.

Enjoy your update.

Thanks. A few hours this morning were just as I remembered from Spain, just a few degrees cooler........

Never had a bike with a quick shifter before, but must say they are rather good.

Didn't know the bike had one when I bought it!

I test rode a WC with quick shift earlier in the year and I thought the quick shift was brilliant and very addictive when going up the gears, just a little clunky when changing down to 2nd and 1st. I like that they are very environmentally friendly bikes as well, what with the engines naturally corroding away to nothing :D

Yep, they are very environmentally friendly, especially the pre-liqued cooled bikes. Here's a picture of a typical r1200gs hexhead doing its bit for the environment. I do believe they came with a dustpan and brush under the seat to sweep it up if left out in the rain for a day or two :D
