It’s much quieter on the move than my old 1150s JB, it’s just at idle when it seems to be quite noisy.
The cam covers are very thin and the water cooling is more of a token gesture, so it’s not much of a surprise that it’s noisy.

Upgraded left tensioner helps the 1150’s

Always used them. Hence cannot comment on engine noise on the last 20 bikes I had in the last 30+ years
Ear plugs all the time
I have had 1150,1200 Air cooled, 1200 LC and 1250 LC and they sound like a bag of nails without ear plugs, hence I always wear them or Earphones with music, even better....

I heard my 1250 on tickover the other day without ear plugs for the first time. I thought, 'Jesus! I've got to get this sorted.' So I just put my ear plugs back in.
If the pistons are sticking out you have a big problem!!
