So, I have the BMW height adjustable pegs, and have been riding the bike with the pegs in the middle position, with NO gearbox issues, apart from 1 or 2 times out of 10 not being able to get neutral.
On Wednesday, I adjusted the pegs to the lowest position, but didn't adjust the gear lever. At the weekend I went away on the bike, probably covered around 400 miles, and three or four times, under hard acceleration, going from 3rd to 4th, the gear change felt quite rough, and twice the bike wouldn't get a false neutral, unless I put a lot of pressure on the lever.
I've now adjusted the gear lever down, about half an inch, and the gear change is back to perfect. Hard acceleration going from 3rd to 4th, and no problems. I've tried it a handful of times, under hard acceleration (all in the name of research
), and the change is spot on again.
This may not solve ALL of the gearbox issues, as I'm sure there are people with faulty clutches/ gearboxes
but if you're having gear change issues, and haven't adjusted the gear lever, try it.
