I may have solved some of the gearbox issues

So, I have the BMW height adjustable pegs, and have been riding the bike with the pegs in the middle position, with NO gearbox issues, apart from 1 or 2 times out of 10 not being able to get neutral.

On Wednesday, I adjusted the pegs to the lowest position, but didn't adjust the gear lever. At the weekend I went away on the bike, probably covered around 400 miles, and three or four times, under hard acceleration, going from 3rd to 4th, the gear change felt quite rough, and twice the bike wouldn't get a false neutral, unless I put a lot of pressure on the lever.

I've now adjusted the gear lever down, about half an inch, and the gear change is back to perfect. Hard acceleration going from 3rd to 4th, and no problems. I've tried it a handful of times, under hard acceleration (all in the name of research:rob:D), and the change is spot on again.:JB

This may not solve ALL of the gearbox issues, as I'm sure there are people with faulty clutches/ gearboxes :blagblah but if you're having gear change issues, and haven't adjusted the gear lever, try it.:thumb

I am with you on this. I am in the process of adjusting the lever with the standard pegs to get just the right sweet spot. Out on it today and albeit a little bit of a clunk going into 1st the vast majority of the other changes were fine. Some were even 'suzuki' switch like smooth.

As I put in other posts I am convinced the sloppy fit of the lever on the shaft is part of the fault here.

Well it looks like you both have a future as development riders for BMW as clearly their guys haven't a fucking clue :aidan:thumby:

It's common sense really.:rob There were no issues before the pegs were lowered, the once I'd lowered them and not adjusted the gear lever, there was an issue. It ain't rocket science.

It's the ridiculously stupid clumsy boots that people seem to insist on wearing when riding a bike nowdays.

Sigh .... I dunno ..... you boys .....

Two legs good, four legs bad Nutty ..... :D

So for up to 20% of the time, you can't get neutral, and you think this is acceptable in a new bike? :blast

Good job it's sorted then

But its a really great bike and BMW are making new parts for the clutch and gear boxes to fix this.

Not acceptable, but the twin cams also wouldn't find neutral occasionally, so this isn't a new thing. But now its sorted, and goes into neutral first time, EVERY time. So, if some folks with issues try this simple adjustment, and some solve their issue, then my work here is done.:rob:P:D

Rubbish. Complete and utter rubbish :rob

Big flywheels, dry clutches and other basic stuff means that all that was required was a bit of finesse, and a bit of mechanical sympathy. Or somebody to keep their boxer long enough to get some miles on it so it could actually be run-in............ :thumb

Or a little spin of the revs just as you snick it into neutral .... :D

OK, the twin cams always went straight into neutral, and never ever went into second instead of neutral. I must have imagined it then:rolleyes: As for getting miles on, I put over 25k miles on my 3 twin cam bikes in two years, so do have a reasonable amount of experience on them.:rob:pullface

As I said finesse and mechanical sympathy were/are required ;) Guzzis are much the same :) It certainly isn't a 'fault' with the hexhead box, not in the same way as it is with the WC's.

25k across 3 bikes  Pah a Boxer engine/box isn't run in until 15k and not fully loosened up until 25k (seriously).....................

Anyway, I wasn't having a dig at you, stop being so defensive :P
