By now I’m assuming she/he bought one and has had many blissful nights in it.

I have an X Mid and it’s definitely well made and very roomy, light and surprisingly strong in the wind.

A lot of folks get put off a particular tent because the pack size doesn’t fit inside their luggage.
You can give yourself more options by keeping the poles separate say on the top of your panniers and packing the tent inside, or in a waterproof stuff sack

To be fair if she was camping with me i would give a shit if i had a tent or not!
When I first started mountain camping the orange one in canvas was their only one. It was that or the Blacks Mountain. Those tents and a Blacks Icelandic Special sleeping bag. I remember getting and still have my first Karrimat. It was a revelation.
I started off with a used Vango Force 10. Hated the tent! Cramped, no real headroom even when just sitting up Relatively heavy to carry and wasn't especially waterproof in prolonged rain. Tents have come a long way since those days. Wouldn't be my first choice for unobtrusive wild camping in bright orange!
Whilst camping in Langdale many, many years ago (too many to remember) a storm went through in the night. Come morning the only tents still standing were the Force 10s and the old Blacks tents. All the supposedly modern nylon tents were just piles of twisted poles and torn nylon. The occupants of these tents were either sheltering in the toilet block or in their cars.
Robert Saunders was one of the first to produce a half decent nylon lightweight tent. We used one for a few years until it started to tear here and there.
I have a modern nylon or some such fabric Vango tent nowadays.
