i-pad? Nah!

Very nice... I'm not playing "keeping up with the Jones'" can't afford to but it's great others out there are going to keep apple on their game.. This thing has to last me at least 2yrs before I look at replacing it... Still in love with it, still not using it to it's full potential... :augie

If anyone wants to meet up and show me some trick stuff to do with this thing let me know...I'm new to apple stuff so probably missing out on lots...

I finally managed to get hands on an ipad yesterday and have to say I am completely underwhelmed.

Now, given that I am exactly their target audience and will leap at the excuse to buy a new toy (I work damn hard etc etc) - the house has 2 imacs, 1G5, 2 powerbooks and countless iphones and ipods amongst my family - I was decidedly unimpressed.

Too big and no use as a personal organiser/phone thang, not powerful enough, no USB and hopeless keyboard for a computer. Didn't tweak my want gland and I didn't get the James May "fizzy willy - gimme" sensation!

Definitely much prefer my powerbook.

So if we say I would have bought the big one with 3G, I reckon that's £699 I saved!!

hmmmmmm - what to spend that on..............!!!!!!!

I visited the Apple Shop in Cardiff the other day and used one for 30 or 40 minutes.

It's a beautiful piece of kit with a stunning screen and Apples excellent Operating System........... But what is it for? Who is it targeted at? Why on Earth would I want one? I can buy a netbook for £250 - £300, no it isn't touch screen, no it doesn't possess the fantastic screen quality, but I can close the lid and put it in a bag and walk away. The iPad is just too big, it is uncomfortable to use and it seems to be aimed at a gap in the market that doesn't exist.

Yes, people will buy them in droves, but it's a case of the Emperor's new clothes. I can't see me ever buying one. I can used an iPod Touch for wi-fi or a 3G or 4g iPhone for Internet use and slip them in my pocket. It seems the iPad exists just "because we can".

Nah, I'd buy a Powerbook in an instant, but the iPad? Not for me thank you.

I can see the point, I have a netbook (with built in 3G sim card slot) so I can do the net think just about anywhere and use it all the time, Its about the same size as an Ipad and lasts about as long, I use the net book to watch movies and read books occasionaly all of which would probably be easier on the Ipad, but for me the big deal killer is the the difficulty in getting stuff onto and off the damn thing, I havent owned one but I assume its itunes etc.
For me I need somthing where I can just put an SD card or USB stick in and drag and drop a file be it photos or documents or movie etc, the lack of the SD/USB conection is the biggest lack. The need to sync with Itunes is another I just hate the damn program, I dont use it for anything other than syncing with an ipod and an iphone but its such a pain to use.
I have e books on my computer and all I want to do is put them on the iphone and for the life of me I cant work out how to get them there, for all the windoze may be a poorer system at least I can drag drop and read a book !!

Don't get me wrong.....

Plunge

My missus wanted an ipad after seeing the ads, just back (and very jet lagged) from a cruise of the Southern Caribbean, almost bought one at St Thomas (Great shopping) but had me a new lens instead, almost had one at Aruba but couldn't drag my arse off the gorgeous beach, bought a watch next stop...............

had to fly back to Manchester via Heathrow today so thought fook it, lets get her a 64gb Wifi version......... just about to unwrap it, the 3g one was about £35 more in the states but i'd never use it.... only saved £20 on Apple Uk prices but got sick of messing about looking

will report, once we've had a play

sorry about the shameless name dropping, Grenada, Bonaire, Princess Cay, Dominica too............ gorgeous weather for 11 days

but at least half a stone heavier :augie:augie
