Is it feasible to have a new battery fired to my I pad, 12 inch about five years old only used for following internet reading our glorious site etc. If so what sort of cost am I looking at/.

I wouldn’t want any Tom, Dick or Harry having access to my digital info.
Whatever you do, remember to back it up. Just in case of problems.

Not that changing a battery gives them access to your data, but if you're worried about it then do a backup and then reset the iPad to factory settings before sending it off for the battery replacement.
When you get it back you can restore the data.

I would be more bothered about any damage or subsequent problem . That’s what I’d back it up before getting it done.

I always back anything up before doing anything with it, and for important stuff I'll backup the backup just to be sure....
But yes, it follows the same principle I have about lending stuff to people. Only do it if you're prepared never to see it again.
