Silly question, I have an IPad 2nd generation 12.9 inch, (good old yanks using sensible dimensions!) really could do with a new case. Can’t find anything for an old model but have seen ad on Amazon for a 12.9 inch but 3rd generation would this fit? , I know it’s a silly thing but I ain’t an apple or computer expert though I do like my I pad and use it all the time, many thanks for any advice.

Only the bloody yanks could mix the two measures systems. How can .9 of an inch even exist?

Kritou’s post is pretty accurate re dimensions. When Im buying ipad cases I look for the number laser etched onto the back of the case. The number will be something like A182xxxxxx, with that number you can search the bay or Amazon for cases

For shits and giggles Apple do have a tendency to reposition certain buttons so a case for one model might not fit another despite being the same physical dimensions. As mentioned above look on the back of the iPad for the model number and search for compatible cases

Cases should be interchangeable. Buttons / ports didn't change position.

The only ones you might have issues with are the hard shell 'click on' ones due to the difference in thickness but even then I think you might be OK
