Ok, I'll have the cover off this coming weekend, inspect it and then ring Coopers.

What about soaking the sponge in ACF50 and then replacing it?

Yes, I'll probably be out at the weekend.

I've just read a couple of threads which seem to suggest that the corrosion is only covered under the original 2 year from new warranty. As my bike is an '06 and outside the first two year warranty then it looks like I'm out of luck :( (anyone know different?)

Can the engine cover be removed easily ? If it's a straightforward job then I might take it off, rub it down and repaint it with hammerite or something build for the job.

Some people seem to suggest that removing the foam from behind the plastic cover is a good idea. I think I'll soak it in ACF50 and put it back, see how it gets on.

I'm hoping to use the bike through the winter so could have done without this corrosion bolllox :(

Given you've just purchased the bike, the guys down at Cooper may well do it as good will gesture. Just play on the fact that you've just spent X thousand pounds on a BMW and it's corroding. They are very well aware of this problem so it can't hurt to ask.

Good luck!

Thought it was a 3yr warrenty? but Im prob. wrong.

Go have a good whinge at the dealer, got mine done at CW in Dorset as a goodwill gesture!:clap Its a known issue. If not Hammerite!:thumb
