I have a hankering for an 1100gs, I just love the look of them, but, Val says "it's too big for you", but stubborn and determined is my nature, and I need to at least have a look at one and have a little ride and push it around, if only to prove him wrong, or myself right that I'm not to small and weak or too old to have one....

So, my question is..... "Anyone reasonably local to me in North Wiltshire, thinking of selling one, or willing to let me have a bit of an experience"?
to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else.

Would really appreciate it if you could help.

Thanks in antisipation

how big are you?

Big enough, with bigger balls than a lot of people.....fords rider :bow

I reckon you'd e fine Jill......Marion had one and she's only ikkle :)

You may need a lowered seat and some decent MX boots would probably help to give you the rigidity to put force down rather than be on tiptoes, but you're a decent rider and you've certainly got the right attitude to get on with it :thumb

I hope you manage to find one to have a go on...I'm sure someone will pop up soon:D

PS There'll be loads at the hogroast....almost certainly a lowered one or two as well.....you going to that?

You're more than welcome to pop up here and have a go on mine. Standard height saddle - so a good way to see if it "fits" you.

There's a decent cup of coffee as well. :D

Only in Bampton, West Oxon so not too far away.

Got an 1150gs, not far from Bath. I don't think they are that different if you want have a look.

Thank you for your respect, that came as a bit of a shock to read your post, I don't consider myself to be that confident or good a rider.
I was a bit of a girl though on Tina's off road ride in Llangollen a few weeks ago, Posu road my bike through the Ford I'm affraid, I lost my courage........, But we wern't prepared for fording that day, so I didn't want to drop it in the water, not having any tools or oil with us.......

Yeh, were going to the Hog Roast, you going?

Give BHT a shout and get Lucy's opinion. She's been riding a lowered 1100 like a loony for a few years now ;)

Again, thank you for the offer, I wasn't sure if anyone would bother to reply.
It's very difficult to go up to a bigger bike after the little uns withought having a go, what I don't want to do is buy one then be dissapointed because It's too big and I can't manage it.
I need to be able to push it in and out of the garage on my own, I'm quite independant and ride to work quite often, so being able to manage it without Val having to be there every time I want to use it is very important.
Will see what we are doing and PM you.

What I need to know about the 1100gs......

What do I keed to be aware of with theses bikes to ensure I get a good one, what do I need to know? what do I look for? etc. etc.

Just be aware, when you first try one it will feel big. I ride my 1100 not as much as I'd like so sometimes it feels heavy and difficult to push around. However, after a weeks holiday on it it feels like a breeze and I can push it around with ease again as if it is half the size.

Watch a drayman move barrels about, weight is nothing once you get the feel for the balance points.

I would start by concentrating on 98/99 bikes. these are by far the most 'sorted' of all of them. One of the best reasons to go for a bike from these years - apart fom the fact that all the issues of the earlier models were fixed. Is that they have 'easy clean' anodised wheels. The earlier bikes are bloody hard work in that respect. Just ask anyone who owns an earlier bike. If you take pride in the appearance of your bike then the wheels (on an older one) will be a constant source of irritation.
