hi i would like to change my router to a wireless one i am using a netgear dg834 now and the new one is a netgear dgn1000 .im a bit crap at computers and also not sure if my passwords are correct my provider is orange if that makes any difference and pc is using xp any advice would be helpfull as i got a feeling im going to be offline soon as i touch it

Before you change router (I'm assuming you've bought it and have it with you) you'll need your broadband login and password. This will be the one that connects your router to your ISP (orange) and will be similar to the email address they gave you. If you don't have this written somewhere you can find the log in by opening a web browser and typing in the URL 192.168.1.1? or 0.1 at the end.

This will take you to the admin console of your router. You'll need the log in and password which if you haven't changed it, it will be admin and 'password' Although the username could be Admin with a capital A.

In there you'll be able to find your internet log in details, however, I'm not sure you'll have the password.

You'll need this info to set up the new one. Once this has been done we can worry about the wireless bit.

If you are happy with your broadband connection, but just want to add wireless you can with a little work configure your new router so that it will act as a wireless access point while using your existing router as the internet connection.
