I'am pi**ed off with BMW

My brother had a new KTM. Needed a new engine after 300 miles and the fuelling was so bad the bike never ran properly. He is still in dispute with both the dealer and KTM and sold the bike 6 months ago back to the dealer at a loss because they wouldn't do a thing for him. I've been to a multi-brand dealer and the engineers quietly give you the nod and tell you not to buy them because, "they're crap!"

KTM are the shi*iest bikes available today with regards to reliability and "niggles".

The Tiger is a good bike with the greatest engine (possibly ever) and much better in quality terms than yesteryear, though that does not make them good enough.

Ducatis people claim are much better today, I don't have the stomach to try yet - my 90s Monster that I fell in love with and bought with 3 years worth os savings is rotting in boxes still in my moms house in Athens. I think it had 11k km at death... Capital letters piece if cr@p.

Honda is the obvious choice, though the Varadero is probably the company's poorest bike in dynamic terms including the C90 cub. It is a really heavy, underbraked, underpowered, badly suspended beast, albeit extremely reliable - on another planet really to (any)BM.

When Honda make a V4 shaft driven trailee with decent dynamics (doesn't even have to be as good as the GS) as rumoured above, then I 'll jump into it head first...

For now mate , keep the GSA since you ve paid for it already and you ll lose a ton of money chopping it for something that is dynamically lesser.

I can't help but wonder what has happened to make you think that BMW are reponding poorly to your issues, at times when I have needed their help they have proved very good at 'pouring oil on the waters'

Go on, give us the story:comfort

well i must say i'am well and trully pi**ed of with BMW i've had problem after problem with the GSA a i purchased from new last November, the dealer has been great but BMW customer service(joke dept) realy don't won't to know.:blast

SO my question is can anybody suggest a bike that can replace the BMW with out braking down every five minutes and doesn't rust away at the first signs of winter:eek:

FFS, :blast The dealer cant be that great.........................................coz its THEIR fekkin problem!

YOUR CONTRACT FOR THE BIKE IS WITH THE DEALER !!!!! You paid them the money and NOT BMW uk.
If you have a problem with the bike, satisfactory quality, fit for purpose etc. etc. then irrespective of what the dealer tells you, they are legally obliged to rectify or replace it under the terms of the SOG Act. END OF STORY.:D

currently working on 'fit for purpose' but this has to be down to the Dealer who has in fairness been spot on.........BMW just won't to wash their hands of the problem:nenau

Good Luck with the fit for purpose. I understand that it is difficult to point the finger at a dealer who has been helping you and in your mind has been providing 'Service', and that is often how the manufacturers seem to work by 'letting the dealer take the strain'. R1200GSA does have a point in that the contract is with the dealer - and they should be sorting it out.

I've been lucky in that I've never had major problems, and I've also (in general) had great sevice from my dealers - so when minor problems have arisen, they have been sorted. But I can appreciate how it can go wrong and how frustrated you must feel.

I hope you get it sorted very quickly. The bike should be great, but I guess that your experience will have tarnished your view of the brand (and rightly so)

Good Luck.

Not necessarily.

If you paid for the bike in full then your contract is with the dealer under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended).

If the bike is on finance, then your contract is with the Finance company under Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973 (as amended). I think, but could be mistaken, this also applies if you paid with a credit card.

I've just rejected a G450X financed by BMW...:augie

KAWASAKI GTR1400

The Bike has no finance on it......and yes i agree with you the 'buck' stops with the Dealer. But my main gripe is the Letter and email received from BMW saying the odd bike has problems? (how many fuel pump relays:eek:) and they (BMW) say thats what the 2 year warranty is for,in my case it will take them two years to sort the problems out........AND THE FACT IT'S BEEN OFF THE ROAD 4 WEEKS! by the time the Clutch Master Cylinder is fitted is hard luck they don't cover down time.

I'am sorry but in my opinion you pay a lot of money for a 'suggested' premium product and it's less reliable than a much cheaper brand:nenau

though i too buy my bikes "cash"

(see i can be a tw@t too:augie)

it is not to be ignored that many vendors are now offering... "0%" on new motorcycles from the far east....

I've been following the sale of goods act with Which Legal Services regarding the pile of cráp known as my F650GS twin. Like you most of my annoyance is directed towards BMW for chosing poor quality components and not fixing widespread known problems.

The advice I've received (outright purchase, no finance) is that an inherent defect is a breach of contract. After the first month of ownership you lose the right to a full refund. After three opportunities to repair you can insist on a replacement bike (same spec/age) or a partial refund based on the costs of you purchasing a similar bike.

So far I am not happy with the compensation package that has been offered.

Any of the forthcoming V4s from Honda with shaft drive could well be the answer. Personally I think BMW may well have to look at their quality control when this happens. A V4 shaft driven traillie type bike from Honda. Sounds great.

BMW's...... proof you can make any old shonky shite, and somebody,

somewhere will like it.........:D

next time buy a honda..................:comfort

R1100GS is the one

I own a R1100GS. Look at the thread 1100 - 1150? Shows there is very little in it. IMHO the pros of the 1100 are:

-You still own a GS instead of a bad copy.
-Very good build quality. Mine has no corrosion anywhere. It's not used off-road, but I have seen examples that have been and are just as good.
-Easier to look after. (e.g. Adventure models with servos)
-Get a good one for £3500 and have change.
- Absolutely brilliant ride. I don't think I would ever sell mine. Nothing of the modern stuff compares on build quality.

Hope you make the right choice for you. All the best! :thumb2

Another :thumb for the Tiger.

I have the 955i 2005 model. amazing engine sooooo smooth and fast and the quality of finish is fantastic. Just had a guest with us on a brand new 1200GS, very nice bike but even he was amazed when he saw my 4 year old bike with 15000 miles on it, he thought it was nearly new!!!!

I have to say that my dealings with Triumph customer service have not matched up to the quality of the bike whereas when I had my K1200GT the quailty of the bike did not match the quality of the customer service which I found to be excellent!!!!
