Not got Maxxis tyres on The GS, but had them on a previous high powered bike - a Deauville :blast.
THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC, not much grip, and they only lasted 3500 miles.

I keep having a go with many different tyres but always seem to go back to Metzeler Tourance. Don't think you can go far wrong with these :beerjug:

Hello, I am Ian Hornsby and I have my own Motorcycle repair workshop in Ashington Northumberland.
Yes I have fixed a few BMW's over the years.
Check out my website where there are some pics of a 1200GS clutch replacement I did in 2010.

Cheers Ian

Go w tr91 dunlops. Never had a tire that was as brilliant from new all the way down to the tread disappearing. Same behavior all the way through.

I love the TR91. Recently got a new GSA TC which was shod with Tourance EXPs....they're Ok but not a patch on the Dunlops. Much better in the wet, not tail waggle as you go over white lines and overbanding...better turn in, much quieter and more stable at speed. My favourite tyre and the one I will be going back to when the EXPs are shot.

Strong advice is not to go near the Maxis....not had first hand experience was discussing with a GS800 guy who had them....stuck with them for 500 miles and then got shot....positively scary in really wet weather was his view.

Cheers

I had Maxxis Detours. Reasonable cost and no worse than the Bridgestone they replaced. I've not used maxxis knobblies.
