Ibook and Coca Cola

wow - i've heard of maggots being introduced to clean up infected wounds - but ants to a computer !!

How cool is that !

I'm going to start up a new business.

Computers fixed - liquid spills only.

Just as an aside - back in the UK my mate spilled a whole glass of wine onto his 2 yr old Apple laptop - got told the repair was 75% of the cost of a new laptop by the Apple shop.

...and he didn't have house insurance - doh !

Also - have you heard the rumours about iPods ?

Batteries fail after 2 years and can only be replaced by Apple workshops at astronomical charge. Don't know if this is urban legend or real though.

OK apart from a few now sticky keys it seems to work fine... So fine that the shop I bought it from suggests that I don't send it off for a service... What would you do..

Remember it did not work at all for 4 weeks and now seems ok....

It had coke flowing out of it....

Check list

Airport OK
Modem OK
CD Burner OK
Screen OK
Keyboard ten sticky keys....

just spoke to my mate back in the UK about this thread.

He says his is working fine now too. He just left it for a couple of months - and its fine now.

weird !

Just spoken to Mac, they say that the cost of opening the MAC and cleaning it without changing any bits would be at least half the price of a new one.

They advise me to keep it as is......

Just an update on this.

The MAC went tits up in ireland a while ago. So I took it to the local MAC dealer who quoted 850 euros to fix it without even opening it to have a look. Obviously for 1000 Id have a new one with more HD space and bluetooth so I thought with nothing to lose Id open it again myself.

So for the price of a can of switch cleaner and a bit of time to work out how to open it it is now working and the total cost was 15 Euros.

Thats about an hour to open spray and close the machine....

The only bit that did not go back into the machine was a small piece of metal about 15mm long. I could not remember where it went. The only thing that does not work is the auto sleep when you close the lid, but it still goes to sleep a few minutes later as per normal.

RESULT; I LOVE MY MAC.... Its not about MAC or PC its about MAC and COKE

In Defence of Apple

I had a failure on a Sony Vaio Laptop which was out of warranty (tight bastids only give 1 year), I duly sent it to Sony who responded with a repair estimate of £1012.78

I asked what the fault was? They said, "broken motherboard".

I asked what specifically had failed on the motherboard, they said "don't know we just swap them out"

So I said "I'm paying you to diagnose a fault not provide un-diagnosed swap-outs", they said "we don't provide that service Sir".

So I said "then you better send it back to me then", they said "certainly just as soon as you pay us £40 for the repair estimate".

So I said "as soon as you provide me with a repair estimate rather than a price to swap a motherboard with an unknown fault, I'll pay it"

Suddenly they go into a repeat cycle and I duly respond by going into an ignore cycle. Some weeks later my laptop came back "repair-rejected", I took it out of the box ready to skip and.....

Well I'm typing this on it now :D

Oh and I have purchased and replaced a battery in an iPod myself and saved a wedge of cash in the process :thumb

See Nadeem I don't always slag of Mac's :P

Hi Andy, Go on give it a go... You know you want to...

I am not having a go at MAC either. But the fact that I had a round trip of 200 miles to drop the thing off. For them to tell me that they could not restart it "even with a CD" was a bit smarting....

Tossers....
