ICELAND - A game of three halves

Hmm.. garlic mushrooms, finished in masala, tarragon and creme fraiche

We stop for a break, well when I say break I mean smoke stop. Perfect time to take a photo of Toddy taking a photo.

This day is just like the last, some great tracks and water crossings, there is a lack of photographs from me as we are belting a long, when we stop it's for a short periods and then we are off again, another long day we get to camp just after 7pm.
I did however have a bit of a drama when we stop at the cross roads we were at yesterday talking to the park ranger, there's petrol pissing out from my bike, I must have lost around half a tank of fuel. on closer inspection I see that all of the fuel pipe clips have worked themselves loose and one had popped off all together. Tools out, putting it all back was a pain but after a while I mange it. Best of all no one took any pics !
We camp by the side of a lake at Skutustaoahreppur, the camp site was very busy and raining, but not to worry the rain stops as soon as we finish pitching the tents. I've got Happy feet again but it's a bit cold.

Great posts Mark, I've been busy recently and will get back onto the RR soon :beerjug:

So Spud & I decide to go forage for some food, as we leave I see Tim G talking to an old guy who looks like he's a local, turns out he's a guide and Tim gets some really good info from him. Spud and I track our prospective food to it location, we have a couple of beers and some nice grub. Bedtime, still can't get used to it being light at 10pm.

Next morning 27th July day 7. It's raining, that thin constant rain that soaks everything, we pack away tents. Wet, we stop for fuel. Wet, we go to the supermarket. Wet, it's a wet day!!! We ride for I guess about an hour or so, did I say it was wet? We get to a café and have a coffee and snacks (I choose the self catering option of spicy sausage). Needless to say I'm a bit grumpy this morning and not feeling the love, as I'm standing outside Tim G comes out and we chat, apparently today is the day we hit the Sprengisandur F26 route. Now this cheers me up no end and I'm sure the sun is coming out and there's a rainbow in the sky. Fcuk no it's still raining but I was in a better frame of mind. The day did not disappoint! I thought it couldn't get better than the previous two days, but the day ahead and the next day were to be the best of the trip for me, mainly because we broke the route up with an over night stop which allowed us to replenish our batteries and ride much harder.`
Some pics of that day.

……..:D

You can tell how much fuel has pissed out by the distance Tim G is standing away from the bike whilst he has a fag

We are well and truly on the Sprengisandur route now, the landscape is hard, I couldn't image having to drive horses and cattle though this all those years ago, it must have been a bleak existence.

We are making good time and the rain is keeping away, it looks like we may even get some sun, we pass a car that's took a turning too quickly and come off the road, just a reminder of how dangerous this can be, it could days not hours before help arrives. I didn't take a photo but Tim G & Tim F did. We stop for a spicy sausage break and we all regroup, Tim G gives us the option of carrying on for the rest of the day till the end of the Sprengisandur or camping at a camp site he was told about by the guide he was talking to yesterday. We decide to make our way to the camp site, so we follow the sign I posted and look for the camp site. This ride was a bit of challenge, I was thinking why on earth would anyone set up a tourist camp site in a place you can only get to via helicopter or teleport machine, When we got here the answer was clear why, what a beautiful and tranquil place, with a natural hot spring !!

This is us all regrouped and about to find the camp site.

What a find this camp site is!! it's got all the facilities you need, warm clean toilets and a large outside bath to get washed in. When I asked where the showers were I was told to go to the far end of the hot pool and wash there so that the soap goes over the wall of the pool and into the river below. Brilliant!!!

Keep this coming Mark - great memories. Are you going to join the Morocco trip again next year? And have you done any more about entering a rally?

Hi Lee,
Yes I'm doing Morocco next year, plus I'm doing Iceland again, I'm thinking of both trips so a whole month in Iceland, that gives over a week to roam about.
No, not rallying, I've got Cambodia & the TAT in my head for 2018, then I might. You doing morocco?
I hope Tim G comes back into this tread, I'm running out of pictures!

Tim's too busy playing with his new bike :D
Yes, I'm down for Morocco, just waiting for dates to be confirmed. I might tag onto one of the Iceland trips if a place came available but not booked - it would be more of a last minute thing.
Really fancy the TAT myself - you planning that yourself or joining one of Bilco's trips?

I'd either do the TAT myself of tag along with Dave Drew from here (he's going to Morocco) or go with GPSKevin from the states.

Fantastic...

Just read all of this in one go. Some truly stunning photos, seems like enormous fun and would love to have a little jolly off to Iceland... ;)

It was fantastic. I'm not a people person but we were all close enough to have a laugh, but at the same time we all had our own space. It's worth the trip!
And it's not a jolly it's an adventure
