ICELAND - Big Bikes - It’s an adventure not a holiday!

The fish soup was soooo tasty as were the fish balls and fresh cod. Fantastic meal .

Not if you don’t like fish it ain’t! :blast
Crap news about Tom! Mend quickly.
Fantastic scenery though! :bow

The original plan was that they would take Tom to Patreksfjordur with me following and leave him there with us then making arrangements to get him to hospital at Isafjordur. As we rolled into town a quick stop at the garage established that there was a clinic nearby and the guys kindly took him directly there. They were brilliant helpful people, I'd watched the driver going out of his way to avoid potholes so that Tom wasn't shaken around more than absolutely necessary.

The clinic staff were great too, especially Sarah who I believe was a nurse there and offered to run Tom to wherever he was going to stay. He was a trooper though and decided he could walk down to the garage where the others were waiting.

The next morning started a bit grey and overcast but still no rain.

We broke camp and headed out to explore the Westfjords some more.

The road runs along the edge of the fjord.

At the end of the road, Tim took the smaller bikes on a track to the end of the peninsular.

While the other bikes back-tracked to the cafe we passed on the way out.

Just to bump in the little track was a bit like a north wales trail plenty of big rocks anyway we could have gone a bit further but decided to turn back.
So I'm following the 640s as Tim goes up the steep little climb when Bang goes Lampos 640 when this 2 ton rock jumped out and ripped the right pannier off
There wasn't too much damage and we fixed it up with a few mallets at the cafe Lampo bailed before the other big rocks could chase him but lesson's learned was if you have a big arse try not to squeeze between two tables
Tim's pic spot the ktm

Im not sure about the price difference, but To go from hirtshal would mean a 2 day ride to get there and then at least a couple of days on the ferry both ways. Ship the bike and fly out is definitely more convenient.
All the gear is on the bike so you only need a small piece of hand luggage to travel in the plane with.

A couple of my pics to add.

The bike shipping was organised by Tim.

However, I think riding to Denmark and catching the ferry there and back would take more time than most of us had available.

I guess it’s a long winter up there.Enjoy it while you can.....

And a few more
Wurzle fell over and snapped the end off the clutch lever.
Will this bike make it to the end of the trip we all wondered.
More problems with it to come!

I will help out for the next bit after the falls and decorating Wurzel to look like her owner we moved on to the new site with the Viking burial grounds.
We were all over the moon to learn that the following day we had to get our COVID tests completed and for those who don’t know its pretty unpleasant so off to the hospital we went.
No dramas en route but there was a plan plotted that we were getting Anna to cook for us as the site had a great heated kitchen:) so spaghetti Bol it was to be.
I offered up my panniers for space as i had Lampos tool kit in the other one little did i know what was to come.

Netto was its usual astonishing self where myself and Pacific spent our time trying to find a useful attachment for Wurzel and a really useful helmet holder was found.

We then proceeded up to the top of the viewing point in Isafjordur where the golf ball was although we couldn’t see it as completely in could so promptly left in search of a new trail.......

So full of Food in the panniers and the Wurzel's new helmet holder secured, Tim suggests there is a great trail that's been unexplored for some time so off we trott to find this one.

It started off pretty straight forward then we got to a rocky climb where bikes were scattered around. The big bikes waited until unwise to attempt and I ended up turning round but both 640s were up and eventually the 12gs was too.
The other optional route wasn't much easier but fair doos to Gary and Kevan managed to get the big ones up.
We all met at the top of what was a little stream covered in ice where Wurzel got accross but we decided it too dangerous to continue on.
