Hi All

Anyone booked a ferry from Scotland to Iceland return yet for summer 2007 with Smyril lines.

They have said they would get in touch when bookings where starting to be taken, still not heard anything and was starting to wonder if a may have upset then with my constant queries and question asking.

Thanks
Simon

SIM,

I looked at this and couldn't find anything direct. Will be interested to see what you come up with.

Ísland Ferja frá Aberdeen í Skotlandi!!

Hi Sim,

A friend of mine was in Lerwick a few weeks ago and said the Smyril Line office was closed!!

I usually(twice) book in late January and sail on the last Spring sailing, that way you get to save hundreds if there's two of you sharing a cabin and have a days bike ride in the Faroes(if they let you off that is!):thumb

I've found the shetland office to be more than helpfull and book that part of the trip there and the Aberdeen Shetland part with Northlink in Aberdeen as there was a change last year and it wasn't possible to book the whole lot through Smyril Line.

I was thinking of going again in May, but Smyril line are in dispute with Shetland Council and were possibly pulling out of Shetland alltogether which would mean sailing to Denmark or Norway to catch the Smyril Line boat!
It was also rumoured(from some of my Icelandic friends) that Smyril Line may sail from Aberdeen!

I know some other Íslandrover guys who use Eimskip container ships from Hull or Immingham and ship their LRs direct to Rékjavik!

It takes three days to sail from Aberdeen to Seyðisfjorður and its a fantastic trip, both the ships are pretty much new and the Smyril Line Nörrona is huge!

Hi

What i understand from my numerous emails with Smyril is that the office at Lerwick has shut down. But the good news is that they will still be running a service from Both Lerwick and Scabaster (top of mainland Scotland - Scabaster - June, July August only) - there has been no mention of Aberdeen from Smyril - obviously you will know the Lerwick Northlink ferry sails from Aberdeen though.

The plus point of sailing from Scabaster (sails at the unearthly hour of 2.00am) is that it only take about 26 hours to get upto Seyðisfjorður arrives at 9.00 am.

Been quoted for my mate and i plus 2 bikes approx £330 each

With regards return journey via Faroes i was initially told you had to stop here for 72 hours- which seemed pretty good, but on further investigation you can sail direct down to Lerwick, (but not Scabaster for some reason) still need clarifying.

As you can see i sent a few emails to Smyril.

The container route sound pretty intresting - but was told by Eimskip Hull office they are not doing that service anymore for motorbikes.

Thanks for your info and hope this helps all. I will keep people informed as soon as i find anything else out from Smyril

Ferja frá Scrabster er gött!

Hi Sim,

The Scrabster terminal was mentioned a while back but was thought to be too small for the Nörrona!

If it can dock there then that would be great news and make the journey so much easier and quicker!

My last visit to Iceland and was in November, flying from Glasgow to Kéflavik and it was only an hour and a half flight!!

The Yaris we hired was great as was the accomodation and we got to see our friends again and do some offroading with Íslandrover in the snow and then get frozen to the bone on an 800cc CanAm quad complete with icy deep river crossings

Very easy journey to make but absolutely no sense of the adventure we had when sailing to Seyðisfjorður then riding the ringroad again but in a different direction to Rékjavik!!

I can't wait to go back again but now I'm thinking of taking a Landrover!! (its got a heater and a roof!)

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with re accomodation and campsites etc!

I haven't got round to getting the rest of my trip reports done but hell it'll not be long and we'll be back again anyway!

Cheers Chris

Chris

Thanks for info, i cannot wait to get across there.

I just wish i could book the thing, makes me wonder if they are stalling because the have maybe not yet finalised the route although it is in the Smyril brochure.

If you dont mind i will get in touch nearer the date i go (August) or when i start to plan where to go or what to see. Could please tell me if its feasible to to a few interior roads + do the ring road and have a couple of days in Reykjavik. I dont tend to spend much time sitting around.

Thanks

Simon
