Damned clever is that. :clap

Thanks for putting these posts up, I’m off to Austria in a weeks time, and stuff like this is dotting I’s and crossing T’s.

I registered with CERQL some years ago

Costs £1.00 a year - All my emergency data encoded into a QRcode on the helmet -

medical services scan the code on arrival - medical history available instantly

whats a squid these days ?

Thanks for this, prompted me to call to check mile (Co-op/Smile More Account using AXA), call centre operative who sounded very young informs me travel insurance is only valid if flying... not had that in the 15 yers I've used the account/policy, looks as though I've not been insure in the past, though no mention of travelling by motorcycle being not covered, or indeed covered.

Hi hum, might have to find new insurance

Just updated my emergency details on my i-phone - thanks for the tip Martin, most useful!

seeking policy underwriting advice from a call centre person is unwise - read the policy, always.

go to https://www.smile.co.uk/products/current-account/smilemore/ and download the PDF (link at the bottom of the page) for the policy document - there are some exclusions about age and medical stuff so check you are not excluded or need to buy extra cover for medical
https://www.smile.co.uk/assets/pdf/...ldwide-travel-insurance-summary-documents.pdf

The policy is with Axa via Rock Insurance, same arrangement as my Tesco policy which covers riding bikes

The wording on p29-30 is:

"Your engagement in ... flying except as a fare paying passenger in a fully-licensed ... the use of motorised vehicle unless a full United Kingdom driving licence is held permitting the use of such vehicles and in the case of two or three wheeled vehicles you and your passenger are wearing a helmet; professional entertaining; professional sports; racing (other than on foot); motor rallies and motor competitions or any tests for speed or endurance."

My emphasis in bold and I have edited out text where ... has been inserted

If you meet the age/medical conditions then it seems clear to me that you are good to go with this policy.

What a pity Uncle Albert (Peter Harris) is no longer around. He could’ve told you the very entertaining story of taking his 90 year old aunt to France for her birthday and her suddenly needing medical treatment. Ended up refusing an operation in a French hospital and demanded being brought home in the back of his plumbing van to a hospital in Kent. Oh how we laughed as he regaled us of pulling into the A&E ambulance bay and all the jobsworths descending on him, and then opening the backdoors of his van to produce a cantankerous 90 year old on several drips .... it used to be worth a night out in the pub with Uncie Albert just to hear that story from beginning to end, RIP Peter, you’re much missed.
Wise words indeed, unless you've got a mate like Pete Harris who can carry out a successful Medivac in the back of a plumber's van.

At the very basic level for Europe make sure you are carrying your GHIC card too. Keep it on you and dont leave it in the panniers like I did ffs

Thanks for that, I've been reading through the policy, but was skimming and looking for references to motorcycle! Just been through there health declaration pages and they still want an additional £36 for a week, didn't think I was such a high risk, oh well, guess I'm worth it :)

you might find a standalone policy is better value - I am paying about that for an annual policy via Tesco and I have 3 medical things to declare. Europe only. Medical added about £8 to the annual premium.

One thing to note on iPhone. If you click Power Button 5 times (I think, possibly 3) in quick succession, it'll initiate emergency call procedure, to emergency services. Consequently, this would also notify your emergency contacts, such as wife, etc.
I've had thit happen by sheer accident in my pocket, I think I got carried away holding my phone and clicking the power button whilst chatting with someone. I then, in no time at all, received multitude of text messages from my contacts, asking me if I was ok?
So perhaps having bike insurance, health insurance and breakdown cover attached to the emergency call list, isn't ideal in this instance. What is your take on this?

Hi hum, might have to find new insurance

I would ask the chimp to point you to the specific exclusion in your policy.

Maybe this thread should be pinned at the top of the travel forum ?

We created the Travel insurance subsection, along with all the other classes of insurance subsections, in order to keep all the insurance related posts in one place.

I will though create a closed thread link to it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks to Wapping for the prompt to check travel insurance and Wessie for pointing out specifics of Coop/Axa policy.

Additional premium paid, covering pre-existing conditions and I'd forgotten it's an annual policy, so I'll have to fit in some more trips
