Well then, fonts of all knowledge. Very clearly as an LC rider I need to join the club of putting senseless videos of straight roads and errant car drivers on F.u.tube so I fancy a go pro so I can do go pro things. I can see that it's possible to charge one whilst it's being used in a car but what about on the bike? Is the charging connection weather proof I.e. Can I hard wire it ?

views with or without sarcasm appreciated.

You don't sound totally convinced ..... !

Perhaps it might be worth starting out with a cheaper model to suss out the whole video scene?

I made an offer on one of these and got it for £35 delivered. It is a clone of the SJ4000, has WiFi, an app, LCD screen and all the fittings you could ever need

I asked the seller about an extra battery and he immediately sent me one for free

Works for me

Don't suppose you could post a link to the seller ?

Sounds worth a punt at £35

Same here....top value kit :)

I haven't yet played with powering it from the bike, but I know I will do.......there are any number of 'waterproof wiring glands' out there for half the price of a pint, and with a potential splodge of clear silicone to totally seal the thing, I envisage NO problems being able to make up an IP67 quality wiring solution for my SJ4000 :)

It's not a matter of if, more a decision about when. I like the look of the new session camera and I can see that on one of the nippy norms brackets just in front of the lights. I just wanted to understand if there was a popular or recognised live lecky feed so that on longer trips there isn't a need for a pocket full of batteries. On its days off the bike I'd also like to have it on a loop recording in the car as with a couple of near misses lately, (push bikes pulling between cars and one or two knobs pulling in and out of traffic) I want my evidence that it wasn't me your lordship.

Sorry about the link but the eBay item is 131429530165

I would also draw attention to the IR remote. Mine is mounted on the bars in the polythene condom it was packed in. It works well

I have this clone, it works a treat.
Extra high capacity batteries & charger for about a tenner (same as sj4000)
The vid automatically starts recording when the charging usb is powrred up if thats what you want

Do you have a link to the high capacity batteries and charger?

One slight disappointment is that the EXIF file does not include any time info. I was hoping to use this to geolocate photos in conjunction with a GPS datalogger

Mine came with firmware N201502080ZV01 - I have watched a couple of YouTube vids that suggest SJ4000 versions will run on it but knowing me I would probably brick the damn thing - has any any thoughts on this?

BTW if you use a Schuberth J1 helmet the camera attaches to the chinstrap via the basic holder - no need for the bulky waterproof casing as the visor provides protection. There are also vids of the w/proof case being fixed to the chin piece of full face helmets

12v supply

I bought a cigarette charger from Maplin at £6.99 which has two usb ports, hard wired it to 12v supply at the fuse connector just to rear of tank and then ran two separate usb cables, one to camera and one to remote. It doubles up to charge phone etc if required. I use the open case for the Go Pro and no water gets in, you could always add a piece of foam into the aperture if required

hahaha! Fucking hell.are you seriously thinking of riding round with a camera protruding from your grid?

What's the helmet mount like? Have people been mounting this unit on the side or on top? Also any test footage?

Looks to be a good price

Cheap Go Pro copy, power / auto operation

Any reason why not?

Got mine for £35 & mounted on My LED spotlight bar (near side) I cut & filed a slot in the waterproof housing to take the power cable & routed over the aux power socket via an angled USB adapter. camera set to 'car mode' & starts / stops recording / charges automatically on the ignition key. quality very good! far better than it should be for a £35 unit if you want photo's of the install just mail me
Mac

Just picked up a Wunderlich Go Pro mount that bolts above the headlight. I haven't got it on yet but I reckon it should give a stable platform for doing time lapse videos on, which is the plan...
