I have a Drift HD Ghost on my helmet, which is waterproof without a case, low profile on the helmet and you can plug a mic and/or charging lead in the back. I'd definitely recommend it. Works better for me than a go pro would.

I've got both gopro Silver3 and drift.
Gopro video is better than Drift particularly if you use narrow or medium angle of view.
Drift has a better form factor and is easier to use than gopro.
If form and functionality are important choose Drift if quality of video is more important choose gopro
