I'm just d/loading and installing a load of firmware and app upgrades from creative.com for my 40gb touch.....one thing they've got out is 'playforsure', which seems to integrate the zen with windows media player....no more having to use the originaol software and it apparently gives drag and drop from WMP.

There are also updates to make the touch slider better which can be a bit of a bugbear with the Zen.

NOTE; you need to make sure you've done a full sync first as the playforsure firmware deletes everything on your zen permanently ;)

it probably already works with Realplayer 10 as drag n drop already ?

realplayer - good
associated software - yuk!

What's your concerns about their software. I don't have a problem with downloading stuff and transfering it. Is it that much better?

Haven't had much of a chance to be able to play with this iupdate until this weekend so up until now I couldn't answer, but having spent the best part of 48 hours sitting here with a bad back, it's way better :thumb

The Creative ripping software is slower by a long way...MEdia player 10 seems to be much faster, probably because it's an integrated part of windows but I'm just guessing there......

The interface is more flexible as well.....and it's quicker at interorgating the Zen to generate a play list, as well as being much much quicker in actually uploading stuff in sync mode :thumb

I've also just ripped a CD that is badly scratched.....using the Creative software, it hung for a long time and I cancelled out of it....under MP10 though it hestitated for a short while then got on with the job and copied the files over to MP3 format perfectly.......that may just be coincidence though.

Erk...also just noticed that the creative software slows down to a crawl when using 'tinternet and ripping, wheras MP10 seems to carry on unhindered...again, probably down to memory and windoze integration but if you like ripping stuff in the background whilst browsing and doing other stuff, might be worth a go.

I ahven't noticed any differences whatsoever in using the Zen itself yet though....

The main reason form installing Play for Sure update is to allow use of Windows Digital rights management (DRM) so you can use one of the subscription music services like Napster, Virgin, etc.

I installed it on my Zen Micro but had a hell of a time getting it to work reliably. Soved it eventually by installing a couple of obscure hotfixes to to Mediaplayer 10.

Hmmm...the MSN music look up doesn't work as well as the Creative third party one.....

Digital rights management???

I wave my bottom at it :D

It's pretty seamless though.....:thumb
