GS1200 ABS- 2 WEEKS OLD!!!!
My experience tonight is similar to this- but it was on a new bike-600 miles. Here I go.
Pulled in for a fuel stop- bike was braking fine. Filled up. Paid (yep, we do) Gloved up, cold night- turned key, sort of, then turned it a bit more- dash lights up- BMW Motorrad etc, warning lights- brake failure and triangle flashing violently- off I set down the A2/M20 running the bike in, but lights still flashing. Hit brakes, bike dips, so ok-off I continue.
Now for you cynics that have just uttered P***k- please bear with me, as I had an 1150 before this and got used to the damn rear break light bulb either blowing, going high resistance and generally mucking about- I actually had BMW- SLM- change it under warrantee.
So, I thinks, this is just typical- just the same as the last Beema. Anyway, 78, 80- they said a burst up to 6k did the running in some good... and with Touratech side-lights, it’s like the parting of the Dead Sea in the fast lane. Off at J7, 70 up the slip road, hit the brakes for the roundabout-and there aren’t any..... Shoot straight across into the turn, loose some speed using the 'box and sort of come to a stop- much to the amazement of the car-drivers who are thinking 'what a c***' and so they should.
Around the r/bout- pull over. Stop engine. Check pants. Re-start engine, warning lights this time flash slowly and head off- everything seems ok.
Moral to story?
Well there’s a few- but I will heed the warning lights in future!
I think my 'gloved' attempt and starting it in the fuel station may have just sparked the CPU that should have needed re-setting. At the same time of starting, I was eagerly pushing the trip zero button. I will off course keep and eye on the bike, as its not due in till next week at SLM and Il mention it- as I don’t actually know why the brake servos failed to come on line- sorry its gone on a bit- but THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!!!
