Hello all ,
since a while now ,the left cylinder of my GS makes a big noise, and I suppose it comes from the valve clearence. Usually I always give the bike to the shop for servicing, but this time I decided to check this myself.
So the manual in one hand, tools in the other, first issue,in the fantastic tool pocket provided by BM, no coïl puller:augie .No big deal,I used two plastic tips and the coil came easily. Of course no spark plug tube,so I had to buy one  . After 10 minutes both valve caps are removed, and I was able to mesure the valve clearance .So that could be noisy,I had 0.55 at the exhaust, and 0.25 at the admition :eek . the right cylinder was almost OK.
I set all that fine and went for a test ride this afternoon,250 KM to the Grand-St.Bernard, and a big smile on my face,no more tic-tic-tic tapets knocking.

But if I did that post,it is not for talking about valve adjustement, but I really wonder if my dealer made his job properly,I guess they just never open the
cover and have a look at the valves..... What do you think?
Anyway,it is so easy to do it,next time I will do it mysef again, and see how the adjustement move, time to time.

See you,Pogo

If you have been taking it in for it's regular service, they should have been adjusting the valves as it is part of that service. I adjust mine every 6,000 miles(10,000 kilometers). Next time you adjust them, you might want to check the rocker arm end gap as it should be .050mm to .50 mm(.002" -.020". It is better to set it on the low end at about .076mm(I set mine at .003"). From the factory it comes with a little to much gap for me. After you adjust the end gap be sore they don't bind. The torque values on the fasteners are, 20nm on the three t45 screws and 20nm plus 180 degrees on the head nut.

Here is a link to a good tutorial.

After which you should synchronise the fuel-injection system.
Just never ends does it ..............:bounce1

Thanks, Throttle bodies must be synchronized after, funny thing is I just did the 12,000 mile service on mine a couple of days ago and already forgot to mention that. I would probably forget my head if it wasn't screwed on.:blast:rob

Thanks for the link RCH, good tuto ,I didnt know it.
