wonder if anyone has seen similar. On my 2008 800gs the past few days.when I turn off the key the bike and ignition stay running as if the key is still on.

if I switch key off and on a few times then the bike will stop and dash goes off as per normal. however even with the key removed sometimes the dash will fire into life and you can even start the bike. all without the key.

turn the key off and on a dozen times and eventually it will stay off.

I have tried both my keys and the same.

I read somewhere it could be the ignition relay getting wet? I did drive through 2 days of torrential rain.

Micro-switch at the bottom of the ignition barrel. Not expensive and less than 30 minutes to change. I had one go on my 650 twin, and then the bike would run without the key in the ignition

Might sort itself out, but mine was intermittent to start with, and it became a PITA to disconnect the battery whenever I'd stopped the engine using the kill switch to stop the battery going flat.

I like the micro switch idea. Tony, I saw wd40 for sale here earlier so it might be worth a squirt. Good idea. Thank you.

The micro switch is soldered onto a printed circuit board, Which gets damp n shorts out, the switch is usualy is full of water as well. The micro switch is available, got mine from Farnell. Dried the board with a hair drier n soldered new switch in (you have scrape out the sealant on the base of the assembly under the switch, and reseal with mastic). Packed the assembly with grease in an attempt to keep the waterout.

Excellent help thank you. I shall try the diy approach first. it only has to last me 4 more days till I get home. fingers crossed.

thanks again.
