Ignition switch barrell

Key has been a little rough going in over last few months, and there seem to be an accumulation of metal filings around the edge of ring antenna as per photo. Anyone else had this? 2008 1200GS

I had problems with the barrel on mine 2011 tc sometimes having to play around with it before the contacts would be made to start the bike , had to get a new one £100 dealer fitted .

That sounds more likely to be the electrical switch on the lower end of the barrel not the keyed part, a common problem solved with a new switch,.
This is a different problem, needs to have a clean out methinks, someone will be along to advise.

I had the ignition cut out problem last year and replaced the switch. This is an issue with the barrel internals. No damage to key, so filings possibly from inside of barrel

Looks like it was the key. Had used same key for 11 years. Tip was significantly thinner than tip of spare key, and when I started using the spare key it has been easier to engage in the ignition. Cleaned filings and so far so good
