Over here!
Hi. read a thread a while back about this but can't find again. took my bike of centre stand after work and alarm went off - despite key being in ignition and switched on. Took about 5 seconds to to turn off and dash lit up - finally! Turned off an on again, and took 2 seconds. then when i went ot park in the garage tonight again it took 5-7 seconds to turn on. tried spraying some contact cleaner a few days ago first time happened as had read this somewhere and that did help but only temporary.

Can I remove ignition switch and clean, or is it knackered and needs relpacing? inclined to replace it, although for £70....

The electronic bits underneath (2 microswitches ) get covered with crap and stick ..

mine left the ignition in the on position ... i had to source a replacement unit :)

You don't say how old your bike is but as Santa says, the microswitches in the block underneath the ignition wear out so bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Wot he said, mine did the same 4 or 5 years ago, new electrical switch on bottom of ignition sorted it .

+1 for all the above. I have replaced the switch twice on my F650 and once on my1200, it's an easy enough job.

Thanks. Picked one up from dealer on way home and fitted. Problem resolved. :beerjug:

Only issue - steering lock has more play in it that before. Can I adjust that?
