Anyone know how to remove the Switch from the bike? I trashed the bike last month , smashed all the instruments off etc, and smacked the tube where the key goes in..

So far I've been through 4 drill bits trying to drill out the one way screws...

Regular on/off switch at the moment to ride the bike, it's like Guy Fawkes on the bends when they hit the forks..

If you were a Site Sponsor I could, via a PM,have told you how to remove the switch contact 'button' assembly from the key barrel.

I`m not prepared to announce the information to the World on an open Forum though.

Saying that, seeing as you`re trying to remove the whole assembly anyway it doesn`t really matter.

For what you`re doing, you just need better drill bits...maybe used a bit slower...and some cutting fluid.

By the way....seeing as your bike`s had a smack...check under the top yoke.

In some impacts, the very thin metal 'lip' under the steering bearing can tear away from the yoke casting.

I think it`s a built-in weakpoint to avoid ripping the thread out of the steering head casting.

When I crashed and rebuilt one of my 1100`s I noticed fore and aft play at the bars, and found this 'lip' was torn out from under the top yoke. :thumb2

Thanks Tarka, New to this so no idea what a sponsor does.!! , Will give a different drill a go, although the ones I went through are pretty good.. just need to get it out so I can bung a new one in.. Anyone else with ideas that work?

Not sure if you`re aware of this, but you only need to drill the heads off.

If you`re trying to drill down the whole length of the threads that`ll be one hell of a struggle.

Once they`re off you can pull the barrel assembly over the remaining threaded studs and then turn the studs out by hand.

Just replace with normal screws.

Brilliant!.. that's my problem, I was trying to drill through to get an extractor in there to pull'em out..

Will give it a go thanks..

:blast :D

By the way....if you find the hopefully now headless threaded studs are reluctant to turn out, there may well be some form of threadlock on them...so apply some heat to them.

drill into the security bolts 1/8 inch then tap a tork socket into the recess, then undo bolt.

If you only need remove the ignition key/barrel, doing it the official way only requires use of a pick or pin.

That.......and the contact block..............

Didn't need the pick, the wires were ripped off. The problem was definitely the cheap drill bits. Bought some fresh bits this morning, and the cyclinder is out now.. Thanx guys
