Small problem -the ignition key won't turn the bike off  Turn the key to off - engine keeps running, neutral light stays on. Turn engine off with kill switch -no worries, engine stops, all lights go off as they should.
Key turns on ignition OK, everything lights up, bikes starts.

Has been working fine, no wiring has been disturbed.

Leaving for a 10 day trip to Tasmania (look it up :D) Friday at sparrows fart so don't have time to get parts or do much surgery. Will just work around it unless someone here has an answer (although the thought that it may end up not turning on worries me :eek).

If nothing has been disturbed it shouldn't be too difficult to trace.

I'd start by giving the ignition switch a good squirt of electrical contact cleaner - the contacts could be sticking or dirty :thumb2

See what happens after that.

Good luck with your trip.

Bob.

Check your starter relay, they can stick on sometimes and the only quick mod is to disconnect your battery or/and the contacts on the relay to reset it??,
or fit a new one if its the fault.

Motohansa has the switches, $240- to you sir,

Trojan classics has good quality 3 position generic items for $38- .
I bought one for my BSA B44, but when the G/S switch started playing up it, or more correctly when I finally realized where my mystery electrical problem was, it ended up on the G/S.
Looks exactly the same when it is fitted and works perfectly

Thanks for those leads BB, will chase them up when I get back from Tassie (hopefully the problem won't get worse while I'm away :)) Perhaps I'll leave Motohansa as the option of last resort :D

Unfortunately Max does not ship to Oz - our choices are limited to three dealers, and only one , Munich, has much in the way of a web site for replacement parts.

And when you contact the other two, they just quote you the same price as Munich's web site.

Good to know the switch is available separate from the cylinder, just got to find someone who has them and ships to Oz!

I see what you mean about Munich, what about your BMW dealer are they as expensive
Motorworks and Motobins both sell the complete ignition switched for about £35/ 55$AU Dollars before tax
Motorworks Part no.ELA55412
Motobins Part No.94743
With the current exchange rate it should cost you about 75-90 $AU plus local taxes

Colin

BMW seem to have abandoned Airheads in Oz - the only dealer for 750 km cant even sell me a oil filter- I dont think he will even service them. And the one 750 km away doesn't have much either.

The problem with the English companies is now post - since Parcelfarce took over it costs 2/3 times as much and takes 4/6 times as long - surface mail from the post office has actually been faster on odds and ends I have been getting for my BSA, at a fraction of the cost.

It would have cost me $140- incl post for the five position switch for my G/S and taken 3 1/2 to 4 weeks to get here.

I will probably fit the correct switch sometime, but will add it to my next order from MB or MW - it shouldn't make any difference to the postage.
