I'll Miss Parts Of It.

Most of the issues with filtering are in the head, as the mind tends to make gaps seem smaller than they really are. The GSA is a big bike, but the more you filter on it the less your mind tends to warp the gaps.

I have no issues keeping up with the scooters in central London. I commute from W4 in West London to Canary Wharf daily and go through quite a bit of heavy traffic doing quite a bit of filtering as I pick my way across town. Rarely do I get a co*k on a (skinny) sports bike up my arse wanting to go faster because I'm filtering pretty much as fast as them.

Each to their own for sure; but I can't see that a Triumph Speed Triple is going to make that much of a difference to ease of filtering. Enjoy. But you wouldn't catch me on a naked bike in this cold weather!

Cheers Toad, I suppose there will be parts of this forum I'll miss as well. Not being able to post in the For Sale section wont be one of them.

ps. Just for your information, everyone is free to post in the for sale section on the Triumph forum.

This is true but we won't take any of your BMW GSA shit over there :augie

You wouldn't catch me swapping a GSA for a 1050 Speed Triple R

On another note, just how much time per commute journey do you think changing to the Speed Triple is going to save?

What is this as a percentage of your commute time?

What's the cost to change the bike?

You haven't had it long (18mths) so will take quite a hit on depreciation.

Let's have a look at the payback period. Because you can get to work faster, you can work a bit longer. Say 10 mins extra per day. Say cost of change is £2,000 and you get paid £20 per hour. So doing a bit of simple maths:

- Pay of £20/hr = £0.33 per min
- 10 mins extra worked per day is £3.33
- Cost of change is £2,000.
- Therefore it will take 600 working days to get a financial payback, just so you can get to work a tad quicker.

Try running that business case past the missus...

(Of course I have no idea what you get paid and I seriously doubt you'll save anything near 10mins per day which further weakens the payback. You are qiute likely salaried too which means of course there is no payback whatsoever....)

Dude, you are wasting your money. Just chillax and enjoy the bike you have ! Or just tell us what the real reason for change is ?

The mind makes gaps smaller than they are? The more you filter, the less your mind tends to warp the gaps? Sorry mate, but your coming across as being either pissed or mental. Back to physics again. Unless you have a go go gadget button that squishes you bike together when you press it, or maybe some kind of snow plough attached to the front that will part the traffic, there is no way you can filter through town centres on a GSA as fast as on a normal bike. I know it. Would it help if I gave you the manufacturers width dimensions? GSA=990mm, Speed Triple R=795

Just chillax and enjoy the bike you have ! Or just tell us what the real reason for change is ?

Your little business plan is ridiculous by the way, and completely irrelevant. It's nothing to do with a business decision to make more money. I ride because I enjoy it, and I can afford it. The fact it saves me time is just another bonus. The frustration for me when trying to make progress on the GS in town is a frustration I don't want. I want to find the fun again in the ride, and I hope the new bike will do that. If it doesn't I'll probably swap it again. I don't think I can say any more without going over old ground. I am relaxed and the deal with a dealer for the new bike has already been done. Obviously there are things about the GSA that are better than the Speed Triple, wind protection being one of them, hence the title of the thread.

Changing the bike because it won't filter is stupid... you just wan't to change the bike and need some comfort and agreement why your doing it:blast

Just change the bike.. simples

Chillax dude. All I was trying to say was that the mind makes gaps appear smaller than they are. This is why some folks can filter faster than others. It all depends on experience / confidence / how used to the bike they are / death wish tendencies etc.

The fact that you are chucking ~£2K away to save ~10mins a day is plain dumb IMHO. But then its your money and your choice. Was just trying to illustrate a point. Besides, when did buying bikes and cars come down to anything other than emotion?

So how much time per day will you save with your Speed Triple? Am intrigued to know. I guess it gives you a tad more time for banging one off in the toilet's before and after work or shagging someone else's missus perhaps? :thumb

Why is it that out of all the biking forums I have frequented that this one has the biggest jerk offs on it?
We're just lucky, I guess
In fact I have never been on any forum where there has been any sort of sarcasm, just plain honest help. The sarcasm on here isn't even funny.
Personally I come here mainly for the sarcasm and to have the piss ripped.

and the plain honest help on all kinds of topics.
When I talk to my non BMW owning mates about it they all say. 'Thats BMW owners for you'.
You'll be making the grave error of thinking that anyone gives a shit what your mates think of BMW owners and the even graver mistake of believing you can so readily classify people according to their choice of motorcycle.:nenau
Guys you got to get with the program.
Thanks for that, we'll get right on it.

Any chance you could send us a Powerpoint of the program, just to make sure we get it right?

Why not go for a Daytona 675. :nenau

Very narrow for filtering with narrow bars, razor sharp handling once out of the city plus more than fast enough for the ride home and a lot of fun going scratching at weekends.

Or is the riding position too uncomfortable for a daily ride??

You clearly don't live in a big city....

I reckon that on my vespa or xt125 I am 30% faster on any A to B distance within London than on my old gs12 or my current big bike VFR12. In very tight 5pm traffic in central London I can beat all motorcycles with.... a bicycle. Very easily if allowed to go against the one way systems etc.

+1. I find the commute on my Honda scooter 200% easier than on the RT.
My criteria for choosing a commuter scooter was that it had to be at least 100kg lighter, so no 650 Burgman for me since it weighs the same as the RT.

Filtering on any bike is shite,i dont care what you ride its hard work and no fun,the gsa and any adventure bikes are fantastic all round motorcycles, the triumph is a great bike,a friend has one and iv ridden it often, but not much fun on the long open road days.....but if you want one go for it,hell you can even wear all the branded clothing like all us sad adventure bike riders, but if it was me id have a supermoto for work and the beemer for everything else...just saying...Enjoy your new ride......:Motomartin

What is an average GSA rider? Am I one? would I be to the left or the right of a Gold wing with a trailer, do i want to filter like the Russian? who gives a shit, i hope the Triumph does for you what you want it to do, I doubt it but have fun all the same :D

one thing i would add is ,the gs/gsa has a huge road pressance, and very good slow speed balance,i find it a lot easier to filter the 1200 than my 650 when you riding over brken tarmac cats eyes etc..cars also tend to move over slightly for the 12 but on the 650 it doesnt happen..:thumb2

Enjoy the Striple R  The engine sounds so much better than the BMW 12 especially with a pair of race cans on it :thumb

Easy to remap using TuneECU as well

Did you not test ride it? And if so did you test ride the bike under the conditions you require it to be good, ie commuting?
