Not happy............

.............cos I've just sold mine to fund a cage for work.

19k happy miles on my Oct 04 bike - bloody brilliant. I will be back.:mcgun

(In the meantime I'll just lurk if that's OK with everyone.)

Had mine since November 05 and riden almost 10,000 miles. It let me down at about 8,500 due the fuel pump packing in causing engine to cut out (happened to be cornering at 50 mph on a road in North Yorkshire at time) - yes, a corrosion job. Replaced under warranty but a bore nevertheless.
Now finding centre stand and some fasteners are corroding! Assume this will all be sorted under warranty aswell. Really irritating as the bike is hosed down after every run as soon as anyone even mentions the possibility of salt on roads...

Does raise issues of build quality on a £10k bike but I guess it's a bit like the missus - love it to bits and haven't found anything else that compares so I'll stick with it

I adore mine....
Bought her in August 05, only problem so far is a warped rear disc (replaced under warranty). Don't wanna say too much else about reliability, don't wish to tempt fate :aidan

A wonderful, wonderful machine, I intend to keep her for many years!

Only problem with mine has been a flat battery once (software download seemed to cure this) and engine front plate replacement due to corrosion.

Screen has cracked at one of the mounting points, but dealers agreed to replace it under warranty - just waiting for the screen to be delivered.

Not ideal, but I wouldn't change it for anything else. Does everything I want and makes me smile!

I went up to Whitby last Saturday with three friends. We were all on R1200GS's, as it happened. Covered 250 glorious miles.

If ever there was a time that I really "clicked" with my bike, then it was on this ride, when it really sunk home what a bloody gorgeous, competent and accomplished bike this is. Everything about it impressed me. It ticked every box, and made me feel so good.

Yes, I'm happy.

Trouble is that BMW and all manufacturers are reliant on the quality of a myriad of suppliers. No one has a shed knocking up ABS, seats, headlights, gearboxes etc.

I have had little trouble with BMW. It is certainly rare that a bike these days, leaves you stranded at the roadside.

I have a nasty feeling though that BMW is concentrating on volume too much at the moment.

What a superb thread :thumb2

Looking forward to picking my 1200adv up on the 28th :beerjug:

Have to agree with you Al.
Having lurked in the forums for a while you read all the disaster stories and think that perhaps I shouldn't be buying my dream bike.

Nice to hear the flip side for a change. Especially as I pick up my GS tomorrow :JB

well i had a 1200gs for a year no worries with it and liked the bike then i got seduced by a K1200s an awesome bit of kit. i have now returned to the fold and just picked up my GSA 12 which i have to say i am already madly in love with it. keep smiling keep riding.

10,500 miles on mine, no problems except immobiliser fault at 9000 miles and a bit of a battery issue at the moment, won't hold a charge for long. The dealer back-up is great and these issues get sorted with the minimum fuss. Easily the best bike I've ever owned and I get a right smug feeling whenever I go for a ride with my sportsbike mates.
I love it.. :thumb

54 plate 12 GS had the following under warranty
gearbox or clutch failures x 3 (150 miles, 7000 miles, 7300 miles)
flying top boxes x3
battery failure xlots
electrickery failures xlots more

replaced with
55 plate 12 GS, which has had the following done under warranty

fuelling glitch at 4500 miles (missing under acceleration unless very slow) diagnosed as "wrong sparg plugs fitted by BMW)

battery failure at about 6500

fuel pump water ingress at 7000

Yes, I'm happy. The level of responsiveness / customer service given by BMW in response to various things going wrong has gone from the frankly atrocious past (see previous rants!) to the rather good present.

You're easily pleased then:thumb :D

Love mine....

apart from that fecking useless seat that won't lock in place :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire

November 06, no problems yet, apart from the overwhelming desire to keep adding expensive bits to it.

The seat

Love mine....

apart from that fecking useless seat that won't lock in place :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire

Yes, it is not easy - I have been struggling with it for two & a half years! That is the main reason that I don't carry my U lock in the place provided; I am told that careful shamfering off the plastic edges which slot in will help ? Anybody got a seat that clicks on and off without difficulty?

Well guys I am sorry but I just sold my 1200GS. Too many reliability issues with the bike and I just got sick and tired of it never starting after it's been left for a few days. Sad day for me as I have been BMW motorcycles to my very core. Not a bike I could ever take to or more importantly rely on and sorry also to say I won't ever be buying another of the new type BMW "lightweight" bikes. I would have another airhead boxer in a breath but never ever any other BMW that has a puny battery, lightweight sealed for life bevel box, fuel pump that fills up with water, indicators that turn off just as you are about to exit a motorway, canbus overly complicated electrical system, forks that twist in their mounts, top boxes that fall off or gearboxes that self destruct.
Take Care Paul Mac

I take it you'll be travelling to work in your Morris Oxford then?
Hahahahaha nah my good old Enfield Bullet not a single issue with it ever - just a brilliant good honest motorcycle at a fraction of the cost of a GS1200 and MUCH more fun too !!

Mine's an 04. No problems, Very happy with the bike. Except my backside dos'nt fit the BM seat. Which of course is made in the UK. The backside not the seat that is. And no I'm not a lard a##e. I have a spooky feeling after writing this somethings gonna go wrong......F
