I have a 99' 1100GS with standard exhaust nothing fancy on it

that was running very rough, so I decided to do the TPS, valves and throttle synch,

valves done no problems.

I have set the TPS to 0.370v (spec 370-400 mV) I have synched the throttles when at idle so far so good, but it still runs super rough it hunts between 900-1100 rpm cuts out frequently and it's easier to keep at a constant throttle but will occasionaly back fire

now what i have noticed is the TPS voltage when the engine is running drops to 0.310v is this normal? I would have thought it should stay about 0.370v
so could be the cause of the rough idle?

also you are meant to able to set the idle speed using the bypass screws when I adjust them there is no change what so ever to the idle speed

what have I done wrong or missing out, any ideas I'm getting a bit lost here going round in circles.

cheers

You've played with to many things at the same time.

Stick to adjusting one thing at a time. It's a lot easier to get back to where you started from. As you've now found out

I`d go back and balance up the TB`s idle bypass screws to start with. It SHOULD make a difference to the idle speed. With it running, roughly wind them in or out(can`t remember which) until the engine speed increases. Then re-balance them :thumb

Basic's

Check that the throttle cable is properly seated on the Right hand side, it will give all those symptoms and more ! It's very easy to dislodge, especially if you've had the tank off.

Thats about the end of my technical expertise, but Q smartarse with a picture !

Have you considered, that the type of problem you describe at the beginning, are the same symptoms of a fecked TPS unit ?.

lesson learnt there, anyway whats been done is done as long as I learn from this then it's not a total bust.

didn't have much choice as the screws holding the TPS in positon where corroded and snapped off so I had to take the assembly off drill them out.

I did think about a fecked TPS but this is just a potentionometer is it not and there generally reliable, if this is the case would putting a meter across it to measure resistance give you good idea of it condition ?

yep checked the rhs cable was seated properly and it is.

does the following basic settings a good place to start.

TPS 0.370v
bypass 2 turns from closed

found the problem :beerjug: ,

I had removed the throttle butterfly when I was trying to remove the TPS thinking that with the butterfly removed the TPS + shaft it connect to would come out as one assembly (it doesn't) but when I put the butteryfly back in, I put it in upside down :( doh!

after putting it back in the right way 30 minutes later

TPS sorted
idle balance sorted
idle speed sorted
throttle balance sorted at 3500rpm and idle

Roddys a happy bunny and having a beer to celebrate :beerjug:
