Hi all, Ive ben trolling the net looking for what i could get for about 7k. There's so much info its hard to take it all in so.

Id like a GS not necessarily with panniers so what year/mileage could i exoect to get for the 7k and what should i be wary of.
Ive always had sports bikes except for briefly owning a tiger but now feel it time to join the adventure club
Thanks

a test ride before anything else

not everyone likes the ergonomics or a big twin, especially if you have been more accustomed to 4 cylinder sports bikes

a thick skin to be here .........look at bikes for 6k ...you will always add bits to it.

Dent is not happening ......officially , it's near you , come and have a look .

You could get a very good R1150GS for sub £5000, a good R1150GSA for sub £6000 or an average to good R1200GS for £7000.

All good bikes.

Other makes are available.

Look in the for sale section on here.

A dictionary?

All joking apart, anything from a mint (to coin the popular expression) steal (to use another) to something half reasonable to a pile o’ shite (to use a third). Look at some advertisements and, as you would do with buying anything without help, make your mind up, preferably after looking at some bikes in the flesh. Where to look? On the internet and probably at non-BMW franchised dealerships.

MCN list no less than three pages of them in the band zero to £8000. I put in £8000 as you’ll be haggling down, no doubt.

PS You can’t access the for sale section, as you are not a subscriber.

If I wanted a GS it would need to be a LC.

Check out the gearbox though because I had 13 & 14 reg versions which had horrible gearboxes.

A friend had a 13 reg LC which was great for 15k miles when he sold it.

Test ride before you buy, the gear change on any boxer (1150,1200 oil cooled) bar the latest 1200/1250 WC is described as a "character" :D
