Camping trip in Lilouete with local BMW guys.
Returned to Cell service and internet availability which I had been without for almost 3 whole days.
Learned a few things. Over the 3 days.
Be a bit more specific, when asking about which group to ride with. Turns out there is more than one intermediate group.
I joined the fast one. Not such a good plan. Oh well it was fun. I survived. I made it to Gold River from Pemberton, for an Ice cream . None the worse.
It was politely but firmly suggested I go with the other old slow guys tomorrow.
The Hurley, Box ticked.
Turns out. I am not very good a securing my 1/4 Ton of camping sh1t. Ok for a street bike, actual adv stuff, not so much.
Confirmed sh!t in BMW vario boxes gets destroyed easily. Including my lunch.

Should a stupid old guy be using cheep generic sport crap he got from Wallmart or Canada Tire, several decades ago? (only one decade and from its from MEC)
Or
Sport Specific, Brand name equipment actually designed for motorcycles.? (I did bring an Oxford tail bag, It was slightly better than my old back pack. still needed bungy cords)
My suggestion.
If he added, two or perhaps 3 more chrome lights and mirrors to his GS. It would look like Stings Scooter from Quadrophinia.
Only a couple of the other old guys laughed. Unfortunatly. He'd never heard of Quadrophinia.
I guess Im getting old.
I do think a couple of big high Chrome mirrors could come in handy when you are standing on the pegs.
And there is a Jeep behind you.
Got quite a bit of practice picking up a variety of Bikes. Mostly BMW's but a couple of Ducati's and a Honda or two as well.
Including mine, I dropped it in my campsite yesterday.
If a guy on an RT tells you he can ride it anywhere a GS goes. Don't believe him just cause some guys can.
I really, really don't like doing first aid.
Same goes for the guy with the shiny new Multistrada. I'm sure it will buff out.
The young guy on the scrambler. Yep good to go.
If you ever want to go Heliskiing. Tyax Lodge is pretty nice. I stopped in for an Americano.
Learned from somebody else. Don't give you bike keys to your wife when you go swimming.
The debate. Do we use Top Gear rules and leave him alone in the wilderness with the bears? or Should we not leave a man behind?
We were still debating the point when she remembered and gave the keys to someone to bring back.
Today, Instead of the Duffy Lake road. (Nice ride, still on my to do list for this year) I joined the more advanced guys. for the ride home. It's Ok it was open to old slow guys.
The Highline? or the Canyon?
For me the big attraction of the West Side of the Canyon was the reaction ferry. Technically the Canyon is listed as closed due to wildfires.
We talked to the fire chief. He said good to go. Fire well above road. Lots of smoke up the mountain.
Turns out the closure is further down the Canyon at the Boston Bar Fire.
Confusing just now fires everywhere.
Rode past a wild fire. Sorry didn't get to stop for pictures.
Started out quite confident. Very glad I didn't try this alone.

Just cause it's called a "road". It might not quite fit my definition of a road
Being slow and at the back you get to see the advanced guys crash in the sand first.
I almost crashed. kept rubber down but got well stuck. Helped pick up a couple of bikes before I got to help to get out.
Vertigo on a MC is a thing.
When we stoped for a photo opp. I was wondering how many people having a pee, fall into Canyons?
I almost fell into a Canyon. (Not while peeing). 2 out of 10 for cornering 9 out of 10 for recovery. Not really sure how I got round. I did mostly everything wrong except. I kept looking where I wanted to go. Down the road. Not over the edge, which was scary. Used up another one of my 9. Oh well. So what might be called a near death experience. Don't look at the light.
Reaction Ferries are quite cool. I'm kind of a nerd.
The Canyon being closed as is half the Province. The Detour across to Merrit was a really nice ride. We stopped for a really nice coffee in Spences Bridge. The Coquhalla was quite busy. I don't usually take the Coque on my bike. 120 k limit is a nice change, it's still quite scenic. Very smokey until we crossed the summit.
From Hope we took the back roads into town. Following one of the locals or I would have gotten lost. Maybe not lost but I wouldn't have skipped all the traffic or found the nice senic byways.
10 minutes down the road for a latte at Starbucks might be quite enough excitement for tomorrow. When I get round looking at the few pictures I took. I will post some.
